Innerpartysystem – Don't Stop Lyrics 17 years ago
I just heard on the radio (Denver Colorado's channel 93.3) that they came up with the idea for the song one day when they were all bitching about reality TV and the celebrity craze. The singer said that the media coverage of Anna Nicole Smith's death particularly annoyed the crap out of him, since it was on every news channel for weeks on end.

John Mayer – No Such Thing Lyrics 19 years ago
This song isn't about differences between "jocks" and "geeks" and what have you. Not at all. This is about wondering if, or rather realizing that, life isn't about pursuing money, those great jobs, that special college, or anything like that.

This is a social critique in my opinion. From the day we are born, no matter what social class you hail from, your entire life is "plotted out in black and white". For me, I come from a middle-class family, and although I've "made decisions" they've really amounted to nothing. From the day I was born I was GOING to elementary school through college. I was GOING to follow the rules, be that good little boy who blended in with the status quo and did was society expected from me.

This song is about realizing that all that cheese that you've been chasing is an illusion. In America, society "guarantees" us happiness if we go to college, get a high paying job, and follow the rules that they have laid before us. But, this is a statement that those things aren't what you need to be doing. It's a call out to stop walking the line just because you are afraid of the consequences of stepping outside of your predetermined boundaries, and instead doing what you want regardless of societies opinions of it.

Society tends to not have a high respect for musicians because it is not a lucrative business for most who pursue it. Society would have us believe that it's a fools errand to forgo high paying jobs for a crap shoot like the music business. But, he took that chance and his world didn't fall apart. Are you surprised?

Stone Sour – Bother Lyrics 19 years ago
I think this song is Corey reflecting on Slipknot...

Certain lines point me to this conclusion. "...A zombie hides my face", describes the mask he wears in slipknot. "Masochists to which I cater", explains how he always does things like calling the crowd maggots and motherfuckers, etc (and the crowd loves it, which would make them masochists to some extent). He's being the sadist in this situation, and catering to the masochistic crowd.

However, the rest of the song describes him as the focus of sadistic people with whom he has a relationship (parents, gf, close friends). Kind of sounds like a diary entry of a severely depressed person... Very impressive song that I never would have expected from Corey Taylor, then again if you have listen to "Mate, Feed, Kill, Repeat" songs such as "Confessions" you should have expected it. (Was Corey the lead singer for that CD? I don't know. But if he was...)

Thrice – See You in the Shallows Lyrics 19 years ago
I'm going to take dr.jacob's idea and run with it. I think this song is about a person thinking to him/herself "the water is deep enough here. I'm going to take the plunge." Metaphorically speaking of course. In a sense, the person is thinking I have complete control over this situation. But when they completely immerse themselves in this situation they realize "I had no idea what I was getting myself into, I'm not prepared for this."

Dustin Kensrue is the best lyricist in the world. He even rivals Maynard. His lyrics have so much depth and meaning, which is rare in music today. Big props to Dustin.

Senses Fail – Tie Her Down Lyrics 19 years ago
I can definitely relate to where Buddy is coming from here. I went out with a psycho who acted EXACTLY like the girl in this song. hehehe...

I truly think this song is just about a girl who had anything she could ever hope for, but she wasn't satisfied. She had to pretend like her life was so awful, and made up problems so that she could be unhappy with whoever she was with, and whatever she was doing. No matter how much he tried to make her happy, she would blow everyhthing out of proportion, make him the bad guy, and be unhappy. And this is Buddy finally getting fed up with it and just saying, "Well, fuck you then. Go be unhappy, but don't drag me down." Or at least that's how I interpret this.

Then there are lines that make me agree with bullets&love. I just don't know...

Senses Fail – Irony of Dying on Your Birthday Lyrics 19 years ago
Holy Crap! Buddy screams his bloody ass off in this song. And it's awesome!

Yeah, this song is without a doubt about the fleeting glory of fame. I think he may be making a statement about people who really get fame without deserving it. Or possibly he's just singing about what every rock star does to get fame (Drugs, clichés, and whatnot). I think he's saying "I'll get fame in a different way, and I really want to be there even if it won't last".

Senses Fail – Rum Is For Drinking, Not Burning Lyrics 19 years ago
Anyone bashing other people's opinions and interpretations really have a lot of growing up to do. Poetry has infinite meanings and can be interpreted however the listener/reader wants (and, yes, lyrics are poetry). Poetry can mean different things to different people. Now, with that out of the way...

My opinion is that Buddy just loves pirates, and wanted to sing about them. He seems like that kind of a guy anyway. Besides that, all of his other lyrics are about death, dying, and relationships. So it is certainly possible that he is making a statement about relationships. But, if there is any message beneath the surface it is probably about leading a life that's more exciting, rather than the monotonous, mundane cycle of everyday surburbia life. Such as the life of a pirate or a rock star. I mean, come on, who doesn't want to be a pirate or a rockstar?

The Juliana Theory – Into The Dark Lyrics 20 years ago
I think this song is about a kid who left home to enter the real world, and had high hopes. But when he got there he realized the world is full of lies and hipocracy and he wants to go back to the times when life less complicated and the biggest worry he had was something like whether he was "it" in tag or not.
Like back when his dad watched him run around and play.

It might also have something to do with alienating his parents. When he left home he burned all his bridges and now he's screwed and all he wants is to reconcile with his parents. Reach out and take their hands, and walk away from the hell that he created for himself.

That's just a couple of meanings that I found, but I think this song, along with most of The Juliana Theory's songs, speaks to everyone differently. It's that type of song that everyone can interpret to fit their situations. TJT is one of the most amazing bands I have heard.

Say Anything – A Walk Through Hell Lyrics 20 years ago
This is definitely one of my favorite songs ever made. I found it by random chance on the internet, and I listened to it hundreds of times in about 4 months. So great. I love the sole/soul word play.

BTW, if anyone knows where to find tabs for this song, please tell me. I can\'t find it anywhere and I REALLY want to learn this for guitar.
