Hedwig and the Angry Inch – The Origin of Love Lyrics 20 years ago
MinakoRei - while you're theory with the children of the moon being homosexual and the children of the sun and earth being heterosexual, while it's logical, it isn't in the sense of this song. The other half that they were separated from is their soulmate, and they've been trying to become one again. If your soul mate is the same gender as you, then you're homosexual.

This song is just so powerful. Before I didn't really see where the thought of soul mates came from, but this really changed my way of thinking a lot. It's about finding the person that would complete you and being with them. So sweet ,espeically that Hedwig still believes this even after the many times he had been betrayed.

The Rocky Horror Picture Show – Touch-a Touch-a Touch-a Touch Me Lyrics 20 years ago
Janet has seen that Brad had cheated on her while in the lab of the Frankenstein place. Rocky Horror is there too, so in an impulse to get back at Brad, she has a little "fun" with him.

I heart Rocky Horror with a burning passion

Les Misérables – Fantine's Arrest + Come To Me (fantine's Death) Lyrics 20 years ago
Okay... werid order, but I'm just gonna comment on Come To Me

Fantine, who had to whore herself to pay for her daughter, is about to die. The Mayor, a disguised Valjean, had taken her in since he feels bad for her. She has illusions of her daughter. She wants nothing more than to see her daughter, to be with her, if only for a minute. She asks Valjean, as she dies, to take care of her daughter, and he promises to. She dies happy, knowing her daughter is safe, and says "and tell cosette I love her and I'll see her when I wake" which just makes it so much more sad.

Les Misérables – I Dreamed A Dream Lyrics 20 years ago
thank you robertedwardlee!

Well this really brings me to tears.

Fantine had been a carefree teen in love with a man named Felix Tholymes. She thought it'd mean something, but then one day, he abandones her. To top it all of, she's pregnant. After she gives birth, she leaves her home to find work. On the way she drops her daughter off at the Thenardier's Inn so they may watch her, who is the only one she loves. Now she has been working at a factory, making just enough to live and send money to her dear Cosette. That is, until one day she is fired. Now she is left, unloved and destitute, outside of the factory. She sings this song, remembering when things were better for her, when people cared, and she didn't have to live in grime. Her dream is the life she had before... carefree, happy and loved. Then the "tigers" come for her. They take things away from her (her love, her daughter, her source of income) and put her to shame. Then she remembers Felix, who had made her happy than ever. Then he took her childhood... her innocence and any possibility of a simple life again, and after summer was done, left her. Yet she still wishes he'll return to her, no matter what he has done to her. She hasn't been able to weather this storm, and won't in the end. She hoped for a better life, but he had ruined it. No matter how hopeful she had been, it has all been ruined ("now life has killed the dream I dream")

Les Misérables – On My Own Lyrics 20 years ago
Ah poor eponine... got all these little teenagers attached to you.

No matter how horribly popified this song is, it's still beautiful. Eponine is a street urchine in love with Marius, a student of the revolution. As she walks the streets of France at night, she imagines that she is with Marius. The reason this song is so sad is because she is so happy. She's happy at just the thought of him... a level I don't think everyone understands. It's beyong unrequited love. It's when that person can make everything better by just thinking of them no matter how sucky your life is. You may think you can relate to this, but I doubt it. Eponine has a horrible life. Her father abused her, she lives on the streets, yet just the thought of Marius gets her through. Even though he'll never love her, she still loves him and is willing to help him (See Eponine's Errand)

Just a song to show that it really did suck to be poor during the french revolution. You work and work and work and still have shit.

Les Misérables – A Little Fall Of Rain Lyrics 20 years ago
Eponine has been in love with Marius for a long time, but he never loved her. His heart is for Cosette, and Eponine knows it. She's happy finally because she is in his arms. The rain does not nescisarily exsist, but represents all that has been wrong in her life liek her abusive father, living on the streets and not being able to have Marius.
This song doesn't mean that Marius loves her, or notices that she is the only reason he's happy. He's only her friend, and she is dying, he obviously wouldn't leave her.

retart60 - while I encourage you to read the book, you may be disappointed. Marius actually hates Eponine, mistakes her for a man, and she tries to kill him. The musical is much happier than the book, and that really is saying something.

Rent – Over the Moon Lyrics 20 years ago
at first i thought this was simply a protest song, with no real meaning besides entertainment, but when examined...

Then a little bulldog entered. His name (we have learned) was Benny.
And although he once had principles,
He abandoned them to live as a lap dog to a wealthy daughter of the revolution.

hm... sound like Benny before/after marrying Allison?

There's a lot more if you really look. One of Jonathon Larson's best written songs, and that's saying something.

Rent – Halloween Lyrics 20 years ago
Marks refelcting over how screwed up everything seems to be now, and is wondering how it all happened. It's so sad... he's basically looking at how coincedences can become such a large part of your life. Mimi needing a light, Collins getting mugged, Mareen's equipment breaking down... and he worries that by filming it, he's ending it.

Rent – Finale B Lyrics 20 years ago
The song is beautiful. All the melodies from the shows, the idea of Roger and Mimi ending up togerther, it's all great.

But plot wise, it isn't for Rent. While musically I love this song, I don't like it as an ending. The entire theme of the show is "No day but today" as in no second chances, yet Mimi comes back? They should have let her stay dead to really get the message across. However if I somehow got to change it, I'd still keep this it. It's just too beautiful. And we don't really know if Mimi is really going to stay alive. She does have AIDS, so there's only so much life in her. And seeing it in the show, with Angel running back to the rest of the cast, is just amazing.

Rent – Contact Lyrics 20 years ago
Well this is one big orgy with the entire cast...

Angel's solo is his last part in the show, and when Collin's says "It's Over" he basically means that him and Angel are technically over, but not because they broke up, but Angel has died.

Rent – Another Day Lyrics 20 years ago
this song is so amazing, as is most of Jonathon Larson's music.

Basically, Mimi and Roger are in love. But Roger is afraid to love Mimi because of his last girlfriend, April. Roger and April had been junkies and because she died. (see tune-up #3: "Close on Roger: His girlfriend April left a note saying 'We've got AIDS' before slitting her wrists in the bathroom.") Roger is no longer a junkie, but Mimi is, and he is afraid to love her because he's afraid of what may happen, but Mimi reminds to "Give in to love or live in fear" and that there is no day but today. She loves him and hopes he will love her, and not reject her because she is a junkie.
