| Sun Kil Moon – Glenn Tipton Lyrics | 18 years ago |

I think those last verses may be about a girl who killed herself, who was a close friend/girlfriend. Thus his first "victim" is his first wronged lover, and that kind of sets off for the entire album to revolve around the same concepts and characters. The suicide/wronged lover theme pops up again in Carry Me, Ohio, and then the rest of the album builds on the idea of remembering those who've gone before their time, up to Duk Koo Kim, where the singer talks about how quickly life can end and missing his lost love. So, that's my theory. The entire album is the narrator remembering this girl who he feels he ignored and who ended up killing herself/dying at some point. I wonder how autobiographic it is, and if it actually did happen to mark, if it has anything to do with the RHP song Drop. |

It's obviously about lovers who are in a very strong relationship. I can't quite make out the way the relationship twists and turns. The song starts with some sort of air... battle? So, I was thinking World War 2, but as the song progresses, the boy grows older and takes up a gun. So, possibly it starts in WWI and progresses to WWII. The main girl dies....I think? Or perhaps the man dies and then that's what "kills" her. I can't figure that out. If I had to guess, I'd say that she's some casualty of the war he grew up to fight in. Probably by (fire)bombing. |

| It's about suicide, isn't it? It took me a year to figure that out... | |
| Death Cab for Cutie – This Charming Man (The Smiths cover) Lyrics | 20 years ago |

If you weren't familiar (although I know most of you are), the original Smiths' version is about a man coming to terms with his previously closeted homosexuality, rather than living by social conformity (and thus, returning the ring for a wedding built on tradition). My real gripe with this version, as butchered as the lyrics are, is the line "This man said it's crucial/That someone so handsome should care," where crucial was originally "gruesome," thus alternating the entire be-yourself meaning of the song. I was surprised no one had said something along these lines yet. |
