| The National – England Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
Let me correct my grammar since you can't edit here: A girl has left him and he's dealing with the aftermath. He obviously misses her and he can't imagine that she misses him as much as he misses her. She may be off in London, moving on with her life. The line "put an ocean and river between everything, yourself and home" sticks out for me as she may have run away from a problem they had in their relationship. "I don't even think to make corrections" strikes me as him beating himself up over not changing in a way that she wanted him to. Now that she's left him he realizes this and is upset at himself, but ultimately won't change as we find out at the end of the song. The last lines I've made a little more sense of now. He is "afraid of the house" because he knows she won't be there when he goes back. So he's staying away and "sinning" (probably drinking or doing drugs) to ease the pain of her leaving. These could even be friends he had to leave behind in his relationship w her because she didn't approve of them "sinning". Obviously I'm just throwing ideas out there, but hope it makes some sense. |

Since no one else has tried I'll attempt to give you what this song means: A girl has left him and he's dealing with the aftermath. He obviously misses her and knows can't imagine that she misses him as much as she misses her. She may be off in London, moving on with her life. The line "put an ocean and river between everything, yourself and home" sticks out for me as she may have run away from a problem they had in their relationship. "I don't even think to make corrections" strikes me as him beating himself up over not changing in a way that she wanted him to. Now that she's left him he realizes this and is upset at himself. I'm not sure what to make of the last part of the song and it's meaning to what I said previously. Either way it is a beautiful song with a memorable build up to the last lines. Hats off to The National, this is a real gem and we should thank them for sharing this beautiful piece of art with us. |

| Arcade Fire – In the Backseat Lyrics | 14 years ago |
|
The song is about her family dying off. It is about the responsibilities she now faces that she used to not have to. Before she could sit in the back seat and not have to focus on anything in particular. Now she can't reply upon her family like she once used to. Instead her family, getting older, perhaps needing medical care, relies upon her to do the "driving" now (perhaps a metaphor for making the decisions). It's quite beautiful, especially the ending with her high pitch humming. Though she's technically been learning to drive her whole life, that does not make it easy for her to just get behind the wheel and go. Perhaps realizing this fact, she now appreciates being the in the backseat even more. In the backseat you didn't have to think about things like death, disease, etc. But in the driver's seat you have to be ready for anything to come your way. She finds it taxing to have to think of all the realities of the world. |

| Hank Williams – The Waltz Of The Wind Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| Speaks for itself. One of the most beautiful songs I've ever heard. | |
| Alicia Keys – The Thing About Love Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| You have to give love a try! That's what she's trying to say that there are all the emotions that come with love... joy and pain, but in the end it's worth it so you have to give it a chance. This is a great song. | |
| Eric Clapton – Blues Power Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Another uplifting song from the live CD, "Just One Night." Clapton sings with a backup singer of some sort and it sounds fantastic. Basically Eric just letting his soul out and his passion for blues showing through in the song. | |
| Eric Clapton – After Midnight Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Great song done by Clapton the "Just One Night" live CD. Well done. Just an upbeat song perhaps talking about going to a party late or performing a show after midnight. | |
| The Doors – Been Down So Long Lyrics | 18 years ago |
| Gregorybrian, your way off here pal. This is a great song and displays the rawness and brutalness of his emotions at the time. Every person who hears this song can feel the pain at which he is in. That's the point of it and that's why it's a blues song, because he's blue. Whether you like it or not, many see it is a great one. | |
| Audioslave – The Worm Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
Chris Cornell led a pretty bad life in his early days. Music was his way to escape and if you look at his songs with Soundgarden the lyrics can be pretty depressing. So this song is kind of about him growing up and appreciating life. Ed Vedder100 got it right i think w/ the "You'll stay the same." His old self will be the same, his negative and depressed self. However, in his new life w/ marriage and kids, he is like a worm that has added on rungs to his body. It's really a fantastic metaphor when you think about it. In life you grow up and gather information one ring at a time. Growing up,enjoying life, and overall happiness is a motif on this album. |

While I don't entirely understand this song, I'll try my best. Obviously you could take it as he has found his love and blah blah blah, but I'll try for something underneath it. It's obvious that Cornell dating back to his Soundgarden days has never been the most upbeat guy. But you can tell from this album that he has more positive things to write about and it proves that life gets better with age. I think this song talks about his life as a musician, how it may have saved him from a lot of bad things, how it has become one incredible journey, and how "the blessings on my table multiply and divide" now that he has made it in the industry for the SECOND time. Perhaps her is the music, I could be off, but it's worth a shot. And this is the best song on the album. |

| Soundgarden – Switch Opens Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
This is my favorite Soundgarden song, and i am a HUGE HUGE fan. This never really is talked about at all, especially when seeing the comments so few on so many of the best soundgarden songs. I honestly have tried so hard to understand this song, but I can't. My best guess is that it is about just changing things. The slaves hanging the owners, the patients STOP getting surgery. Think about hollywood and how many people give up their hearts and pride just to look beautiful. "Feel the air now, stumbling and wander in the moonshine" basically is saying now that you've had surgery, feel the changes, can you live with it? When the switch is on, things change. |

Abstruce is close i think. It's clearly about a girl. My take: It's about that "holy" girl every guy dreams about. Every guy has atleast one girl they put on that high pedestool and this song is about what's gonna happen now that he has that girl. "Pleased to meet you Nice to know me" that line is saying ive known you for a while, im glad you know who i am now. "Will you follow me down now, down now" I take this to talk about sex, like it's nice she is here now, but is this real and will my fantasy be complete. Anyways, this song is amazing and the guitar alone should have some more comments. |
