I've said for over a decade that Deftones is "my heart". My favorite part of what the deftones give me is the feeling/emotion. The emotions are so intense at times I feel like drugged when I'm listening(i.e. 5D). Even before I figured/interpreted the words, I felt. Even if I had no idea what Chino was saying, I could feel/relate to the emotion of the Deftones. They help me to feel so I know that I'm alive. With that said, I do enjoy each interpretation I read, but I feel many interprate the lyrics without interpreting the song. Chino writes amazing and beautiful and abstract lyrics, but more importantly than what he says is how the band says it. Instead of asking...what does "fifteen stitches and a soft parody" mean...ask your self when I sing that lyric with the Deftones...what/how do I feel. Emotions are nearly impossible to literaly describe, and hence we have MUSIC. I will attempt this...How doe Dai the flu make me feel... At first it's almost like I'm trying not to care, but can't help to feel this pul. It gets to the point I'm on the fucking edge...and barely able to hold back. Edge of crying, edge of punching and kicking, edge of fucking, edge of shaking the shit out of something/somebody...edge of falling. It's like this intense feeling of love with restraint, like there is something inside just screaming to get out. God, I feel it inside! If I don't let it out soon I'm gonna fucking explode! I just want them/him/her/myself to understand how I feel, so I guess I'll just scream..."I was right here going off...going on" Sorry for the ramble, but how do you feel? Great Song....Everyones right about what it means...since thats what music is....a realtionship and if it's how you relate to it, then it.s not wrong. What were missing though are the literall translations. So we think it's about a girl coming back "she calls me from the cold". Great, I just want to throw in "SHIMMER" Defn:To appear as a wavering or flickering image. To me a shimmer is something That from a ddistance catches your eye...Looks bright and shiny, and seems a though it may be something significant. Worth your time to walk over to and pick up, but as you walk to it It wavers in and out and may dissapear completly. Say we do find what was causing the shimmer...chances are it was just a piece of trash anyways, like a coke can. Was a good coke at one time...someone elses coke, but it's gone. CHAOSONE that is so lame...but its your own so run with it.... I apoligize no offense meant but i think your missing the feeling of the song. Workin off your video...lets say ame situation except the guy can't touch her...he's watching her from a distance playin with rosey palmer...perhaps spying or on tv....she s completly calm and seductive in her beauty while he is utterly infatuated and desperate to have her tast. He's getting no physical satisfaction... yet when chino sings (Somehow calm as she walks offstage An entire empire recall your face...your face...show me...come )it is so soothing...that he is getting satisfactiion by just watching her.... then when he sings (Let me know what you're like...let me... know what you're like... Your face...your face...) its complete frustration ...he wants desperatly to satisfy her like she satisfys him so to me the song is infatuation complete and utter infatuation....just knowing she exists is satisfying...but the beautiful things we would destroy to be part of her. kinda of like how I'm infatuated with deftones...I wanna know what your like...I want to be much than more we all have our own interpretations we are all right...yet not a single one of us is right..... p.s. I agree with piemerica it is about " change from childhood to adulthood" No lyrics so no meaning right....is this site lyrics meaning or song meaning? Close your eyes listen to it tell me it means nothin. This is what I get. Drop of rain joining the ocean. A flower blooming. A caterpillar turning to a butterfly. Some background music to natures works perhaps on the discovery channel. Maybe I did too many drugs unless... Put it with the context of the album Kid A's life from birth to rebirth? Say Kid A is birth (Everything in its right place)....Kid A is kid age (got caught with his first lie)....The National ANthem early teenage years (he begins to see more than just black and white sees all the grey results in confusion and chaos) How to disappear completly early adolescence (Cocky! thinks no one noes anything and I know everything; therefore feels seperated....I'm not here this isn't really happening)....Skip treefingers for now....Optimistic Adult entering the capitalistic age time to get a job and get ahead in life(big fish eat the little fish I wsant some to)....whats between adolescence and adult hood? treefingers ofcourse adulthood Time to branch of and explore from what we've learned from our roots |
