I used to think it was the obvious torn between 2 women, but now I'm sure it's about drugs and dependancy. "I'm already somebody's baby" means he's too much of an actual baby to handle being in a relationship, he's too depressed and addicted to drugs and a general mess, he couldn't possibly take care of this girl when he himself already has to be taken care of. And his girl is in the exact same situation. "You're already somebody's baby" Like Elliot, she's depressed and addicted to drugs and a general mess and needs to be taken care of... but not by him, because he needs her just as much. And she can't take care of him because she's also too much of a baby. "I could make you smile / if you stayed a while / but how long will you stay with me, baby?" He wants to be with her, but he knows it'll only be a matter of time until she falls back into her addiction and mess, so she needs to get herself together and well, not be somebody's baby, before she can handle a relationship. "And if I went with you / I'd dissapoint you too / well I'm already somebody's baby" He'd dissapoint her like he dissapoints everyond else, so he needs to get himself together first, just like her. They're perfect for eachother and it's the first time in a long time that they've been happy, but he tries to tell her that they can't be eachother's baby because they already need to be taken care of by others... They can't depend on eachother when they already need to depend on others. The tenderness is heartbreaking. The line "Because your candle burns too bright / Well I almost forgot it was twilight" Is so romantic and sweet. Sad, sad, sad... :( |

I think Alley is right, this song is from the man's point of view. I thought it was the prostitute the first time I heard it, but if you just read it you'll see. This song was the one track on the CD I would skip over, because I thought the beginning was kind of annoying, but after I listened to the whole thing and read the lyrics it's one of my favourite songs on the album. Clever how they gave it that club scene feel. |

I love Metric and I love this song, it's so catchy. I agree with everything that's been said here, the song is pretty self explanitory. I love this part: it’s wrong to want more than a folk song I’m wrong to want more than a folk song I’m wrong to want more than a folk song When people are in relationships with these creeps, it comes to a point where the partner has put the other down so much that they start to think that they're right and begin doubting their self-worth, blaming all the problems in the relationship on themselves. The music seems so light, but it's got a really sublte, darker feel... It's really fitting for the topic - it's sometimes hard to tell if someone you know or even you yourself are in an abusive relationship and it all seems innocent, but's it's a serious issue. |

To the people who got the mislabled "Where Is My Mind?" by the Pixies... Yeah, the Pixies are amazing, you should definately check out their other stuff. Ha, but I have no idea how you can think they sound so similar to Sparta. Anyways... I love The Mars Volta, I like At The Drive-In, and I just started listening to Sparta (only cause I saw them on Conan O'Brien the other day and I remembered they were the other part of ATDI) and I don't think they're for me. Their sound is almost too emo/screamo. |
