Well put enigmaticbasement. I totally agree with you. But Cohen does deserve an amazing amount of credit. There are few people in the world that could write this song... just as there are few that could write All Along the Watchtower. Dylan and Cohen are musical geniuses but they can be outsang. |

Ya... the song is totally about some guy that is trying to make himself believe that his gf loves him because she says that she does but her actions clearly speak louder than her words and she doesn't love him and he knows it... he just doesn't want to believe it. It's an amazing song I'm surprised that more people haven't commented on it. |

" Love it taught me to lie"... that is by far my favorite part of the song because I think that for a lot of ppl it's true. You don't want to hurt the person that you are with so you learn to lie. It's sad but I think it's true. Well it's true for me at least. I think that his gf left him and now he's rather jaded about love and life in general. His juxtaposition of stones and flying, love and lying, and life and dying make me think that he is perhaps having a hard time believing in just the good in life. With the good comes with bad and vice versa |

This song really is amazing and I just thought that I would add, I have no idea if this is relevant or not, but a swan song is actually a song before death. Traditionally swans are thought to sing as they are dying. Also in literature which has sexual metaphors "deaths" also refer to orgasms. So ya I don't know if this is relevant but I just thought that I would add that in there |
