| This is seriously one of the scariest fucking bands I've ever come across. But oh, how I love it. | |

| Modest Mouse – Bankrupt on Selling Lyrics | 20 years ago |

Oops, forgot a little bit. My favorite part of the song is the second part, the parts about college and coming clean, because it sounds like he's been knocked down and kicked so many times, and now he's tired of taking it, so he's going to stand up for himself. It's just so real, and it shows how shitty most music is these days, because Modest Mouse is such a little known band (at least at this point), and people listen to all the crap, when brilliance like this is sitting alone in a music store, watching people lap up the new sell-out band's new album. |

| I'd have to agree. The first time I heard this song, I decided that I wanted it played at my funeral. This is probably my favorite song in all of existence. And that's no exaggeration. | |

This is definitely the best Modest Mouse song there is. It's beautiful. To me, it's about how greedy people are, and how we'd do anything just to get what we want. " well all the apostles-they're sitting in swings saying "i'd sell off my savior for a set of new rings and some sandles with the style of straps that cling best to the era" so all of the businessers in their unlimited hell where they buy and they sell and they sell all their trash to each other but they're sick of it all and they're bankrupt on selling and all of the angels they'd sell off yer soul for a set of new wings and anything gold" It's also about how fake people are, and how, in the end, we wish we could go back to the way we used to be. "they remember the people they loved their old friends and i've seen through'em all seen through'em all and seen through most everything all the people you knew were the actors all the people you knew were the actors well, i'll go to college and i'll learn some big words and i'll talk real loud goddamn right i'll be heard you'll remember all the guys that said all those big words he must've learned in college and it took a long time i came clean with myself i come clean out of love with my lover i still love her loved her more when she used to be sober and i was kinder" Every time I hear this song, I start to cry, because it's real, it's meaningful. |

THIS IS ABOUT SEATTLE. "You're free to case the ground from the Cascades to Puget Sound..." THAT'S EFFING SEATTLE! I live in Seattle, and this place is a prison. It makes me cry every time I listen to this song, because I understand it. The entire album makes me cry. I love it so much. |
