i LOVE this song!! i was listening to the radio the other day and i was singing it after i heard it and then all of a sudden i was justr like OMG! this OAR, i heard them live a few summers ago when they opened for a Dave Matthews Band. who ever said that all dmb songs all have the same meaning i sooo do not agree with you, and , as Dave says "when you show someone else your painting it doesn't belong to you anymore" he can't make any bold connections to his life b/c it might steer people in other ways to differ from what they think. |

i think that its about a "dead" love, and when i say dead i mean their love was no longer there for eachother, but he loves that person so much he can't get rid of the memories, but he also loved them so much it hurt so he HAS to get rid of the memories or he'll never be able to go on living,

so well, yeah you know, i think the part about "your cold hand lay in mine" means that theres no life in their relationship, the spark is gone. |

ok, i'm not trying to rain on anybody's parade but really you shouldn't put that the song is about" you should rephrase and say "i THINK this song is about..." because dave matthews writes the words to the songs and makes them invaguess (sp) on purpose so how ever you hear it is how you her it, so well yeah, sorry that was just on my mind. |

i love this song too. But is kind of like the song oh (some devil) because it is such a good song and the only thing wrong with it is that its so short. But I bet the live version will be jamming and long!! So have no fear concert goers!!! LOL

I think that he is talking about how in the end even though struggles suck you know that once you accomplish this great task at hand you can feel proud and say "hey i did that and im happy." and in the song where he say then what would i sing for i think he that daves way of saying i've done this is singing. so i think that in the end even though you wish you had it all in life it wouldn't really be life if you didn't have to go through struggles. |

I think that Dave is talking about how people just do things. They find any humour or joy from little things. Just eat, breathe, drink and sleep.
