| Sparta – The Most Vicious Crime Lyrics | 18 years ago |

What I took from this is that the worst thing you can do is try your best to be "the perfect person" so that you can give everything to the one you love - it's wrong to be soft and just give that person everything they could ever want. Pacifying somebody endlessly makes them soft, believing their lies; delusional. The singers perspective is that they could never have this for their lover and choose to "get it right" instead of running that person aground. I know my take on this is kind of out there. I hope that works well though. |

This song to me sounds like this person is degrading or otherwise taking down their ex significant other to minimize the loss they feel. Rather than dwell on the memories and be entirely too close, this person tells them to run away to "kill this thinking" (nostalgia/memories) or he'll attack. |

| Thrice – The Earth Will Shake Lyrics | 20 years ago |

I saw a hint of irresponsibility. Of not wanting to own up to having done wrong, hoping to dodge the penalties of our actions. more than anything though, opposition to the confinement of human spirit really rings out loud in this song. I liked it. |

I don't know. This song seems like it was written to be very vague. I would sum it up as "not everything is possible, and if thats your belief, you will be disapointed. But not everything is impossible, and if thats your belief......" Know your limits, maintain your expectations. -Short and sweet, damn catchy too. |

| Muse – Thoughts of a Dying Atheist Lyrics | 20 years ago |

One possible interpretation that I particularly like (though its a stretch) goes like this: a fight started and the nostalgia and fear of losing or disappointing somebody of importance compares to that of a dieing atheist departing. Almost as if to say "It can never be the same without....." |

Collegeguy. I can appreciate that your views (666) don't really seem to fit in with a broad interpretation of this song as possibly having a religious undertone. But hear this. I myself happen to be an atheist, but a crucial part of loving art is an understanding the emotion and appeal an artist wants to get out. So screw off. I personally believe that the bible is historical fiction. But I don't get shortsighted and call people out on appreciating and learning from it. FSF could have wanted for this song to be that way. And you know what, if they had made some connection to POE (very emotional fiction) so what - that's not any kind of brainwashing. GTC tried to help us see another way of connection to a song that has some heartfelt lyrics. Try to be positive. Thats what music is supposed to be about. |

Fluid I'm behind you on this one. The lyrics got mangled when they were stretched to fit over this mess.. what if this whole crusade's a charade and behind it all there's a price to be paid for the blood on which we dine Now come on, I COULD HAVE WRITTEN THAT. If any other band had released this it would never have flown as well as NIN. All I hear are lyrics that sound as if they were written by some kid who is just starting to explore poetry. I was excited to hear this until today.. "YYYYEEEEAAAAHHHHH!!! You really got me now..... |

| Also, I think you should check out "just let go" on the new album. There are many allusions to bringing the soul that is deep inside to life. | |

NICE analysys asterix... One thing I think I may have a difference of opinion though is the exact meaning of "eternal submission". I think the idea behind this line that is he is falling out of sync with reality. This could be death or ignorance. But with the sounds of auditory hallucinations in the opening of the song, I think it may be drugs that lead to death. Eternal submission, to me, is giving up life. -"I can't fight". "So useless I feel alright" isn't far from the thoughts of somebody contemplating their demise. "Invisible movement" could be the seperation of soul and body(it never stops, I feel so free) When he's "going down" he's decending closer to ceasing to exist. Again and again. Eternal submission, praise me? |
