Its funny, cause i didn't know this song was a cover till right now, but i could tell there was something different about it. Mraz is definitly a romantic, but his love songs are usually a lot more clever and less sappy.
Still a cool song though, if you like that kind of thing. |

The version on the live album is awesome, with john popper (from blues traveller) on harmonica and an extra verse that really makes the song ("Now i'm realizing the 3rd verse/without even rehearsing/lacing up my converse/and conjugating the verbs").
The song was written with mraz's friend bushwalla, who does crazy ecclectic music, hence the funkiness in the song. It was basically written as a mini-bio. Mraz played on street corners in New York before he moved to San Diego, hence the "curbside prophet". As far as i can tell, the "waiting for me rocket" is just him looking forward to a bright future... but you can bet he kept the line because of the double meaning. The kid has a fantastically dirty mind. |

The version on the live album is spectacular. Only breakup song i've ever heard that can put me in a good mood.
I've heard another, earlier version thats a lot more toned down. Its definitly better when its upbeat. |

The first verse of this song was written for his friend who had cancer (and recovered, i believe) but he couldn't finish it. He used it as an interlude to "Dream Life of Rand McNally", which he used to play at shows. Really cool song, if you can find it you should check it out. He didn't finish the song until he started recording the album. |
