for sure the song is predominated by a sense of desolation as it was "a long and dark december". probably he's disenchanted with the politics and religious and tries to find comfort from his love? while the future of our generation is ruled by the idiots and the world is so chaotic like a carnival, religious, which is to promote peace and universal love, doesnt help a bit in reality. priests simply clutch to the theories in bibles, but doing nothing practical. the cross is way too aloft to match with the modern world. i guess he is kinda fear of the future as fog can be interpreted as uncertainties in life. the line about he doesnt want to be a soldier reveals that he is scared by all these harsh scenes going on in every part of the world. about he's relationship with his love, its kinda reserve as well. the woman doesnt express much of her love to him explicitly, but rather just stay silent. and thats why he wish to feel some warmth from her, in face of the cold and cruel exterior, which is symbolized by the dark and snowy december. by the way, what's the meaning of Violet Hill? |

ya...i agree with sarabeara24 that the song is about the uncertainties of future. and everyone is liked being part of a system, they work and live everyday, yet they are not sure about what they actually want and their future are just like the white shadows, therefore we should break the walls to find the true side of us... i find Coldplay's lyrics are quite difficult to figure out, but i have to say that's the most beautiful part of their songs...they write meaningful lyrics. X&Y is awesome anyway...!! |
