this song can be seen in many different ways. actually if you think deep enough, they way you might interpret it sometimes reflects things in your life. to me, this song seems like it has to do with an alcoholic getting a d.u.i.-- -"I'll wear my badge: a vinyl sticker with big block letters adherent to my chest that tells your new friends I am a visitor here: I am not permanent" the sticker for identification. "new friends" meaning the other people in jail. the "visitor" part you only stay 1 night in jail for a d.u.i. so you can sober up. -"gaudy apartment complex" memaybe referring to the building of cells. -"a stranger with your door key explaining that I am just visiting" during visitor hours, the cop("stranger with the door key") explains to his friend, or girlfriend that he's there only temporary. -"and I am finally seeing why I was the one worth leaving" Maybe that friend/girlfriend left him because they were fed up with his habbit of drinking so much. -"the district sleeps alone tonight after the bars turn out their lights and send the autos swerving into the loneliest evening" the bars close up, and poeple drive drunk to their destination (which is how he got caught and put in jail or whatever) just a different way to look at it. but then again, some parts don't fit just right it could be about multiple things. i don't know. I love all of their music. |
