Tool songs oftan get over looked because of Maynards songwriting capabilities, but this song is not about something deep, it is about life in it's simplest form. I think they try the recreate the feelings and emotions in life evolving and incorperate it into the music (Brilliant). Notice how it starts of with Adam ripping it up then drops to nothing (where life starts). Then it slowly "evolves" into the chorus. The lyrics also support this theory... "Black then white are all I see in my infancy Red and yellow then came to be, reaching out to me, let's me see" -This is how life is slowly evolving "Spiral out, keep going" - Maynard sings this at the end because it is the death Tool is one of the most involved bands I have ever heard... they have so much more in their music than any other band out their, it is everthing music should be. Tool is underrated. |

| Tool – Schism Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| This is definitly about a broken relationship. "I Know the pieces fit because I watched them fall away" - He is saying that he and his lover's relationship has gradually gone cold... like when he says "I know the pieces fit" which means they were once happy. When everything goes softer in the song and he says "Cold silence" that is because they are not talking that much any more. "crippling our communication". I have been a tool fan since 91' and Maynard is a genious. | |
