| Morrissey – Piccadilly Palare Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
As the first person said it's clearly about "Palare" or "Polari". Not about prostitution or 'The Smiths'... Drag means 'Clothes' in Palare, Bona means 'Good'. Morrissey has an open fascination with Carry-On films. See - 'Everyday Is Like Sunday' video. Kenneth Williams was a star of said films. 'Round The Horne' was a programme in which Kenneth Williams would talk to another man in Palare. Julian and Sandy. This is Morrissey documenting said pursuit in the wonderful form of song. |

Excuse me? Colin Meloy? I'll stick with this version. One of the best songs ever written. It's about how life in general is "Silent and Gray" and when people get a chance they 'Escape' to lovely fun towns were all of your cares will go away. But then you get there and you realise that it feels 200 times worse. "Etch a postcard : 'How I Dearly Wish I Was Not Here' In the seaside town ...that they forgot to bomb" |

Just listen to the lyrics. Anyone who thinks this songs is racist can only be seen as simple, ignorant and somewhat hateful. It's a song exploring why normal people do stupid things for example joining the National Front. "The winds blow ... All of my dreams away" This lyric is one of three that sums up the meaning of this song. We all feel that our dreams have 'Blown Away' and some people cling to the first thing the see that will possibly make it all better. In Davids case, The National Front. "We wonder if the thunder Is ever really gonna begin" And this is the point in the song when you realise that 'David' isn't racist or even particularly right wing. He knows that racism doesn't help but he feels dejected and empty that the world in general is of no use and there is no way for him to actually make it better. "..but one day you would like to And if you show them what you're made of" This is summing up the fact that we all want to make a mark and do something with ourselves but there appears to be no way to. Just think about it. |

A great song about how normal or working class/under class people are viewed by the world; "People think all we do Is lie around and think of how Rich we'd be if we didn't think Life could improve" 'Proof if proof be need be' that Morrissey has and will continue to write songs about every true feeling that most people feel. Because he is one of us. The closest thing to a second coming that any of us will ever know. |

| Morrissey – November Spawned A Monster Lyrics | 20 years ago |

This song, as most Morrissey songs, isn't as literal as it sounds. The fact that it appears to be about a Disabled person doesn't literally mean that it is. It's about people doing stupid things in the name of lust; "A symbol of where mad, mad lovers Must PAUSE and draw the line." It's about people being born without love and parents that don't love or care for them etc. The fact the she is Disabled means that it makes it harder for half-hearted parents to love her. It's a song about despising the fact, literally, that you were born and never feel loved. Thanks, Thom |
