The Thermals – An Ear For Baby Lyrics

"Can you hear me? The siren's on
Let the water run, leave the light's on
An ear for baby if you need it
Can you hear me? I'll repeat it"
I feel like the line "let the water run, leave the lights on" is referring to the tendency to believe we're living in the end times. The siren's on, warning of the apocalypse, and thus our actions on earth have no true consequence other than what serves our immediate chances of salvation. And the "ear for baby" couplet is the fascist state placating the masses, acting as a maternal figure and promising to look out for our best interests. "Can you hear me?" implies the inescapable influence of a fascist state, imo. Fantastic album. |

The Thermals – A Pillar of Salt Lyrics

Yeah, really, not every song has to have a double meaning and relate to personal relationships. To me, the whole album sounds like pretty straightforward political/religious commentary. Fantastic song though; the whole album is blowing me away. |

The Dismemberment Plan – 8.5 Minutes Lyrics

I agree with WhiteTide, about the sun being out and trying to kick start it. I'd say the 8.5 minutes was the time between the sun actually going out and the time before the last of it's light hit the earth. The last 8.5 minutes of life as you know it. The verses talk about the aftermath, and the chorus goes back to how people reacted during the event. |

The Walkmen – No Christmas While I'm Talking Lyrics

While the lyrics are kind of underwhelming on paper, this song is probably one of my favorites on the album. Everything is done so perfectly. It really has to be heard, not read. |
