Yea. I thought the use of the kids in the video and the misinterpretation of the lyrics when he assumingly said "Don't waste your time on CONFIDENCE today..." gave an impression of teaching children about warfare early in their lives. |

From the music video, I got that the song was emphasizing a contrast between play and reality. In the music video kids were playing the reinactment of the Iraq War. Then, at the end the kids gathered to see a real body get transported in a Herse.
I think what Serj was trying to say was basically that this war is not a game; it is not something to take lightly as if things can restore back to normal like a day-care center play area. So this song is a reality check to emphasize the seriousness of War. |

Well, its duhhhhh...The song is about LOVE. It said right there in the lyrics. "I am love". He is saying what love is in his views. Love is the worn out leather jacket. Love is the thing that keeps you and me alive, but not forever. So, it's just about love.
Also this song got me thinking really really deep.
Love keeps us alive?
So what is hope? Can hope be only probable and not a gurantee? Like in religions, hope is everywhere, but hope is only a 50 50 change: Hopeing that you lose weight fast, hopeing that the war in Iraq will end, hopeing for more money and more food. But I don't think hope will do the trick. Maybe love will. Love is the thing that can gurantee happiness in which hope has not fulfilled all the time. Love for who you are with your weight, love for stopping the war and bringing peace, love for giving food to the poor and accepting what you have. Love seems more realistic in today's little world than hope. eh?? |

I really liked how shatteredstarlight brought up the point in which, yes, is usually brought up. That is that this song can be about religions such as Christianity. I too, believe that this song is about that. I kind of think Amy Lee might be atheist or agnostic or something of that sort.
I get the sense that it IS in fact about religions that give a sense of "false" hope and beliefs. "Perfect by nature" talking about God. More lies about the world that never was and never will be" talking about heaven.
What confused me was that Amy used the word "she" as a referance to whoever Amy was talking about in this song. I do not come to realize if God usually is referred to as "she".

Oops...didn't read inhib's comment until after I wrote the thing above. That could've saved me the trouble by saying I agree with inhib. |

Man, if you also look at system of a down's song meaning page, chocolate says "system of a down are awful"....it seems chocolate has a grudge against a lot of metal bands and maybe even all rock in general and is willing to use up a lot of his/her time to express such dislike. How about we just coexist and not intervene in any connection with the music that we do not like? |

I think the lyrics are wrong in "where do we go when we die" it's "when we when we go, do we die?"
BTW, ChristAlphaOmega, you're pretty closed minded in assuming that what you say about God and the afterlife existing is absolutely TRUE with such weak evidence such as "some people on an operating table saw an afterlife"...
anywayz, Serj probably wouldn't absolutely believe in God or the afterlfe if he even asked the question "when we go(out of our bodies) do we die?" He is asking "Is there an afterlife?" |

I thought this song was about him killing somebody. In the lyrics saying "I have sinned by just making my mind up and taking your breath away" kinda gave away what the song was about. But, also psyberchotic sounds right in the other translation. |

WorD. The part where he says, "I'm not okay" and later saying, "Trust me, I'm okay" is contradictory where people ask if your okay and you just say "I'm fine" even though you are not. For the lyrics from "for all the dirty looks" all the way to "jumping out the second floor," i think it was about a girl who was stuck in a relationship with a sexually abusing boyfriend who looks at her dirty, takes nasty photos of her, and probably tries to rape her which is why she broke her foot trying to get away and jumping out the second floor through his window.
I think the guy singing this song cares about her and tries to help her, but she doesn't wanna listen so he's not okay! |

Yea, it's true that the song has meaning for everyone who interprets it a different way. But, there is one true meaning to the song and only Tom would know that....Butt......I think for myself...that this song is about the confusion between the simple, happier life of blindly accepting faith AND seeping down the rabbit hole of skepticism and rebellion. The "good girl" he talks about is the accepter w/o question about the faith of God and her simple life of black and white, love and hate, yes or no. But he himself is a bad boy because he doesn't go with acceptance of the "crowd" in which he originated from. Thus, living a rebellious life of confusion, anger, questioning, and lack of faith. Two different people going down two separate and opposite paths. But, not one of them is wrong...WorD. |
