| Billy Joel – We Didn't Start the Fire Lyrics

I heard Billy Joel comment on a local radio station about this song when it first came out. Each stanza represents a specific year in the beginning of the song, starting with 1949 (Harry Truman), the year Billy joel was born, and continuing to 1963, with the "JFK blown away" lyric. After that, the song randomly mentions significant events in no specific time order. BJ said that to him, life sped up after JFK, so he felt that the randomness of the events in the lyrics kind of conveyed that message. All in all, a great song, and one thatgets you thinking about all of the people and events mentioned. Good high school research paper material, as some have suggested |

"the snow turned into rain" to me means that reality finally caught up with him. He finally came to the realization that this person was no longer someone he is in love with, now just another person out there in the world. |

| Miss Saigon – Last Night Of The World Lyrics

I just saw a local production of Miss Saigon, and this song really stuck with me. Seems likea really hard song to perform, but the two actors did a great job - really conveys the characters passion for each other. Also Saw some great video clips of it on youtube by the original London cast. Can't get this one out of my head !! |

I agree with Sentimetal - at least one of the best. I like the newer acoustic version off of Hall's solo album - a little more blues-ey and a little less "pop". And any song that can fit the words "carbon monoxide" seamlessly into the lyrics always scores big with me |

Just enjoy listening to the song !!. I think the sum is even greater than the parts. I love the guitars - accoustic at the beginning, and bass throughout. Very few bands have a bass player who can lead the song like Yes's guy. Makes for a very innovative sound, the likes of which you don't hear anymore. Remember this song was played before music videos, so the music and lyrics had to paint a picture, even if that piture was an acid trip, it's still interesting. |

Not a bad interpretation, Mr. Beach Bum. I couldn't make heads or tails out of this song at all. Lines like "there you stand no taller than the grass sees" don't make much sense to me. And the third verse is even harder to fathom. |

| The Mamas & the Papas – Monday, Monday Lyrics

I just saw a PBS special on the Mamas and the Papas. One of the band memebers (forget who) said that he still doesn't know what the song means, it just sounded cool, sothey went with it. And the begining harmonies are great. If I wanted to play English major and derive a meaning out if the song, I would say that it has to do with a brand new relationship, jsut like Monday is the start of a brand new week. You don't know what to expect, or if that person will stay around for a second date ("monday evening, will you still be with me ?"). Once you get past the awkward beginning, "every other day of the week is fine", and the relationship goes on with ease. And when you break up, and find yourself out on your own again, "you can find me cryin all the time." But since the band memebers don't know what it means, I guess that is all just B.S. |

| Jackson Browne – The Pretender Lyrics

I think this is a song about a guy who only wants to be part of the crowd, just to blend in and be nothing special - no fame, no blame, so to speak. He just wants a nice girl, a modest house, and e decent job. the pretender is the guy who exalts himself and thinks he's better than everyone, only to be taken down later. |

| Kansas – Point of Know Return Lyrics

I think that this song means that there is a call for special men (or women) with leadership qualities, who can get things done despite the nay sayers (the demons) who would rather watch you fail and criticize your efforts. Whether these men were explorers of the past, or soldieers, or business leaders (i.e. Bill Gates), the words aply equally. |

I can appreciate lyrics as much as the next guy, but I think this song is one of the sappiest I have ever heard. It's as if they said "let's write a top 40 love ballad hit" and proceeded to do so. I remember several couples in high school and college who chose this as "their song" when they had to part in September. Yeccchhh!! (of course, I didn't have a girlfriend at the time, so maybe I'm just bitter, but I still think this song is sappy) |
