Blink-182 – I Miss You Lyrics 20 years ago
First of all, I think it's sad that so many people have not seen The Nightmare Before Christmas - but what's sadder still is that some of the people commenting who HAVE seen it think it's morbid and about death! It's one of the most beautiful love stories ever written, the fact that they are ghouls/ghosts and goblins or a skelaton, in Jack's case, has nothing to do with it, it's just presentation. But enough about TNBC [everyone who hasn't seen it, go watch it!], this is what I get from the song, this is what I wrote in my xanga on it (because it is my background music):

No offense to my "Blink-fan" friends but "I Miss You" is the only Blink-182 song I really like. And it's not because of the Nightmare Before Christmas reference - I've said before - I feel like I can't claim as much of a hold on that movie since I just saw it a year ago for the first time. But why do I like this song?

"Do you know what the "voice of treason" is? Do you know a person who's voice is TREASONOUS to you??? You want to call them. Every day you want to call them - even if they don't pick up - in fact, you sometimes hope they don't pick up because you'd rather just hear their voicemail. You want to hear their voice but the words that come from their mouth tear your heart and soul in every direction. THAT is "indecision to call you." Something you want so much but that hurts so badly. And the [sick] thing is, it DOES feel like you've got a spider eating your insides. THAT is the reality of the analogy. If you sit down and let yourself drift into a thought of that person, does it hit you so hard that you shake? Do you feel the pain and the joy? The confusion is almost unbearable - you feel faint and almost or do fall over, all concentration is lost for the rest of the world. This person tortures you - but they don't have to ever be nice to you - they don't have to "waste [their] time" because they're "already the voice inside [your] head.""

Now to comment on other people's things - I can't understand how someone could believe this girl is dead. It's just beyond me, really. Not that I don't respect their interpretations, but the fact is, this song isn't "dark" or "morbid" in the sense that some people mean it to be. It is only dark because the person singing is already in love - he cannot do anything about his emotion - but the girl both loves and hurts him so because she doesn't know what she wants. The "darkness in the valley" is still a reference to Nightmare Before Christmas - in the film, when Jack sings his song in the graveyard which also has his HOUSE - not grave, HOUSE - he walks down into the dark valley to sit and contemplate, and Sally watches him from the gates.

*sigh* I dont know what else to say. I just feel so deeply connected to this song, it's unreal. Thanks for reading!

Sister Hazel – Champagne High Lyrics 20 years ago
I know that this song is about the wedding of an ex. I know that now. I think the problem was that I heard the lyrics differently. After reading them it was quite obvious. I put too much of my own experience into the song without knowing the real words anyway. My best friend drank herself to death and I loved her dearly, so for the longest time I would sit at home at night and drink the only thing I had around - Champage. The odd thing about that is drinking makes me happy no matter what I'm feeling, so it was a champage HIGH. Oh well, that used to be my take.
