The majority of the song seems to lead you to think 1 night stand; however, the final verse pretty much puts all the pieces together. Women obviously has problems with drinking/drugs, etc. Meets her and takes care of her cause she's bad off. Likes her well enough for the night but knows that it would never work to be with a person with her issues, but likes her enough to hope someone will. |

So I put myself in the shoe's of the "hero" and superimposed my own life into the song. To me it boils down to a simple crush that this "guy" can't get out of his head. It's an affliction he has that is driving him crazy and no matter what he does to repress the idea of her he is unable to expostulate the idea of "them" to himself. So he hates her; he hates her because he can't control his own life, he hates her because of the trepidation she impregnates in his being and the way she has stolen every waking moment from him. But even with all that hate there is an equal if not greater love/caring. Upon the idea which has been preoccuping his head coming to fruitioa battle must be fought from within to decided which emotion will win. For that reason he wishes he never knew her and that he could just "tear her apart" and be done with her. But that whole paragraph is leaving out one key line which may be the turning point for the entire analysis. That line is: Cause theres always repercussions when you're dating in school. This could bring a whole new spin on the songs meaning or it could just be an excuse he is using to help combat the longing for her. For my purposes I'll have to side with the latter for now. I've listened to this song a bunch of times but then I started to really listen to it. I quickly was able to relate exactly to the lyrics. You enjoy someone's presence so much in your life that you'll do whatever you can to be near them. You know that it is something that both of you feel but distance/circumstances/etc keeps you apart and so when you talk you just try to keep away from discussing the issue of what you are together. Simply to prevent you from hurting due to longing for that person so much. So you choose to ignore your feeling to keep the hurt from over taking you. But hey that's just how I relate to it :) |

Well It for sure is following the same lines of The Wizard of Oz.. Golden Path, Lions, wizards, Silver Mountains all from Wizard of Oz... Then the "I found myself in some kinda hell, but I did not believe in hell" Is very intrigue and may lead to the true meaning of the song. Something around the idea that All though you may believe insomething doesn't make the opposite not possible. I don't know if they are religous that would play a big factor in what the song means in regards to that last quote. Maybe a song about mans struggle to find himself and his idea's? The long journey he must take believing in things then having them not come true? I haven't seen the video but I rarely think the video, unless directed by the musican, have any insight to the actual song. But the last line really throws me through a loop... it just doesn't seem to follow the lines o thinking I am having. And For that I think that i am wrong. haha.. I'll think about it again later. |

To me this song is about how people feel their ideas are the best ideas. How some people push their personal convictions upon others and expect them to see how great these ideas are after they have been forced upon them. For me these are supported by these phrases: "All those people that you know Floatin' in the river are logs" For how they think they are so different, how they are superior because it's their ideas. Then: "Well let's take this potted plant To the woods and set it free I'm gonna tell the owners Just how nice that was of me I could buy myself a reason I could sell myself a job I could hang myself for treason For I am my own damn god" Showing how people do something then tell them how much better their beliefs are. I think this speaks highly of our society today. Everyone imposses their ideas upon others saying theirs is the better one cause it's theirs. They are their own God. But just because it is your idea it doesn't make it a better one... But that is just my IDEA of what the song means. :) |
