The Flaming Lips – Be My Head Lyrics 19 years ago
What are the chances that everyone here is right? I mean, is it possible that the message is something along the lines of "I've ruined my brain and not only may I trade you for yours, but could I also rely on you in the future, given how you've helped me now?" Maybe it's a stretch or maybe I'm being too objective, but I think it can have both meanings. Even if much of the phrasing ("blasting holes", "seeking stars") suggests drug use, the idea of supporting someone does fit.

Common Rotation – Fortunate Lyrics 20 years ago
This is one of my favourite songs to hear Adam and Eric ad-lib. In one version, they've just been heckled, so Adam dedicates the first verse of the song to it, ending with "that guy paid seven dollars to tell me I suck" in lieu of "then we dance to the tempo that pleases me".

I think it's a sweet love song with uncertainty. Sure, they're comfortable and everything feels right, but there are moments in which it falters. In the end, it's just nice that the relationship has persevered and that there still is doubt to make it interesting.

Soul Coughing – Pensacola Lyrics 20 years ago
I think that this song is a comment on the somewhat ironic regard in which the lower class holds themselves, like people who shop at Wal-Mart out of necessity and are still radically self-important. That only accounts for the bookends of the song, though, so I'm probably wrong.

I love how Mike sounds when he sings "I knowwww", though. It sounds raw and fraught with emotion, a perfect crescendo in a song to which I didn't used to give much thought.

"Your self-esteem is waiting, canned up in aluminum". Magnificent.
