I think it's about slavery, personally. And about how perhaps someone in slavery would be reluctant to be free, because their servitude is all they've known, but he wants so desperately to be free that he doesn't care. Or that they're scared of the consequences of trying to escape. It could also be applied on a much larger scale to the Global south and a tendency of peoples of some nations to stay in a dilapidated condition instead of moving into the modern international community. |
