holiest of alters...earthly goddess...my black madonna.... all of these are references to mary magdelene....who was never actually proven to be a prostitute, but jesus' apparent confidant and companion. Possibly even the mother of his child(ren)... The church is a scandalous bunch of people, namely men who would've covered up the true story of MM and Jesus because the "sacred feminine" (mm) was a threat to Jesus' reputation as a Divine being....and those in search of the "holy grail" were actually seeking the truth about MM's place in the life of jesus. the lyric "my black madonna" refers to a painting by Leonardo Da Vinci called "Madonna of the Rocks" in which Mary Magdelene is said to be depicted. anyway...APC does mention her in other songs but i don't think they are messing with our heads, maybe just trying to enlighten us. |
