| Marilyn Manson – Born Again Lyrics | 20 years ago |

I think he’s mocking the so-called rebels who think they’re “cool” etc. “Do you or don't you want this to be your song? It doesn't take a rebel to sing along.” – It doesn’t make you a true rebel to “sing along”, to follow what everyone else does anyway. So by copying others, you’re not really a rebel. ”This art is weak in its pretty frame and I am a monkey with a misspelled name” – Popular stars are monkeys; their art/jobs are pathetic… “I’m someone else, I'm someone new, I'm someone stupid just like you” – Again about copying, about following, thinking you’re different when you’re not. “Do you or don't you want to take this hit? Does it make you feel like you're a part of "it."” Do you want to do drugs to be with the in crowd, just to be cool, to follow. Not really sure, just some random thoughts. Love the song anyway. Just sounds good to listen to. |

| The Doors – L'america Lyrics | 20 years ago |

The first thing I thought of was Las Vegas..."L'America" being "The America" and Las Vegas as the epitome of American desires. Get rich quick and all that. “I took a trip down to L'America” – Lots of people take trips to Vegas. “To trade some beads for a pint of gold” – Swapping the chips for cash in Vegas. “You know the rain man's comin' ta town” – In the film, “Rain Man” the guy makes lots of money in Vegas which is the goal. (However I think the film was made in the 1980s, well after the song was written, hmm...) “Change your luck” Luck for gambling, Lady Luck etc. “Friendly strangers came to town” – Vegas has lots of visitors. “But, the women loved their ways” – Old days Vegas, lots of brothels etc, the women like the strangers because they can make money. “Like the gentle rain” – Vegas is in the desert, being ironic, lots of gentle rain in the desert. I could be very wrong, but that’s just what I think. I also love how trippy the song is. Maybe this adds to the unreal feeling of Las Vegas and craziness etc. |
