This song seems to go hand and hand with Car Underwater...almost like the aftermath of it. "To answer your question I just had to leave" makes it sound like the death was by choice. The guy is regreting his suicide, and it's making him miserable to be away from the one he truly loves. Miserable to the point where it rains in Heaven for him, Heaven...the place that is supposed to be pure bliss. |

I think this might mean that the guy met a girl that he truly could have (and maybe should have) loved, but he'd made past mistakes and had already given away his heart in a relationship that didn't last. "I never had the gift of holding on to you" could suggest that he wanted this girl so badly, but he could never have her because he had no heart to give her; he had already given away his heart to someone else. |
