I can't believe no one's commented on this song; it's so great. Well, I think it's about crime and violence in society today and how it all gets spread around with the internets and all ("the episodes get sent around"). |

Yes, great song. I think the guitar is especially well done on this tune But is "pistola" a word?
And while it may have absolutely nothing to do with the song, I laugh at the idea of Dirk hooking his nuts to a car battery. Ha ha ha. |

I think the whole insecurities thing means that its pointless to worry about doing little things wrong, or not looking quite right maybe, as one would worry about in high school. If you really like this person, and you are really meant to match, it'll all be fine. Just throw the damn grenade and see what happens. |

I swear, it's almost as if he knew the end is near. Hell, I'm crying as I write this. I see the song like this: he's done so much for so many people, but now it's time for him to get a little back from the world. His music has changed my life, as I'm sure it has for others. Now I think he wanted to relax and enjoy the fruits of his labor, but we'll never know if he really did. R.I.P. |

Best. Incubus. Song. Ever. Period.
The keys to this song are the "the world is a drought/joke when out of love" lines. It doesn't matter if it's the entire world, which it well may be, or your own realm of existence, you social life, your personal endeavors. If it has no love, you have nothing, and might as well retreat into you Sick Sad Little World. The choice, however, may be a bad thing because you were too lazy or unable to fix your world, or a good thing because you realize you can't do what you desperately need to, so you must conceal yourself if you wish to find your miserable existence bearable at all.
To all the "this is about Dirk" ideas, I can see how the song may have started with him, but it seems to have blossomed into its own world now. |

The consensus seems to be this is just about being stoned off one's ass, but whether, Boyd intended it or not, I see deeper meaning. It's about being to intoxicated, not necessarily from drugs, You see it in his later lyrics about being blinded by society and forced to accept what everyone else thinks. This song is about being steeped so low into what's popular that you can't even find yourself or what you stand for, no matter how hard you try. Then again. the song might just be about drugs, but I think Incubus is onto something more than they might have intended originally.
Forgeting the lyrics, I just love the jazz/rock feel of this song, particularly with that guitar riff at the end. |
