Why does it seem that some people think only lesbian sex involves both hands? I have sex with men and I use both hands. Not that it has to be interpreted literally. But it makes me think of wanting something so badly that you grasp onto it as tight as you can with "both hands" so that it won't slip through your fingers. Unfortunately, sometimes the harder you hang on, the more it slips away. |

I think this song is effing great. I never knew it was from a play. He's like so uptight and pure, and then the chorus is like trying to tempt him at every turn. It's like they're saying "you can try to resist, but we'll get you one way or another because there is temptation everywhere." Always been one of my favorite songs just cuz it's so fun. |

Love love love all the interpretations! Lola, now that's a song about transvestites. This one always just reminded me of being in a hot & heavy sexual relationship that didn't really have anything else going for it. I had one of those once.
It's like filled with passion and great sex, but then when it's time to do anything else (like have a conversation) all you do is fight and argue.
He tries to break it off with her but she keeps stalking him cuz the sex is so great. Hmmm... sounds so familiar... I think I may have been the inspiration for this song. lmao. |

Right now this song has a lot of meaning for me. I am in the middle of my own bizarre love triangle. I've always thought this was a great song but that I'd hate to feel a close connection with the words. Now here I am, engaged and had an affair with someone from my past who happened to rock my world. My brain is swirling. I'm not a cheater, but here I am cheating. And the worst part is I feel no guilt for what I've done. This song really hits me where it hurts.
Every time I think of the guy I cheated with I get a shock right through me like a bolt of blue.
I'm trying to make things right in my head, but the wisdom of a fool won't set me free, and every day my confusion grows.
Now there's going to be so much awkwardness with my fiance and with the other guy, why can't we be ourselves like we were yesterday? |

Everybody seems to be all about what the band is thinking and doing as if you all know the musicians like they're your cousin or something. Get over it. They're just a band with a song. Some people like them, some don't. I do. I think this is a great song about having a hot and steamy fling with someone and then you can't forget about them when they're gone. You can close your eyes and imagine all the fun you had while it lasted, but now that it's gone you miss that person not only for the fun you had, but because you're older now and that part of your life has passed. |

I think "her note" is a note he wrote her saying "I love you" but she answered back saying "I wish I loved you" and killed herself in the bath. "The letters ran" because they were wet, or maybe had blood on them. Most people who kill themselves in the bath cut their wrists, but if he didn't notice she was dead, I guess it could be pills, since she had a glass to wash them down with. When he touches her face, maybe he is trying to manipulate her face into a smile. |

Good call on the name of the week. I can totally see it being about a groupie, but also reminds me of friends I've had. I saw part of Butterflies are Free with Goldie Hawn, but I think that it's more like her daughter's role in Almost Famous. "Lose your dreams and you will lose your mind, ain't life unkind" She's definitely a free spirit who is able to act as though she's not emotionally attached to the guy.. she can come and go without attachments. |

I saw an interview with Dave Pirner saying how they were having problems making the video and finally someone decided put the posters of missing kids in the video, even though that's not what the song was about at all. But he said it was cool because a lot of those missing kids were found thanks to the video.
I agree that this song could be either about a deep depression or about drug abuse. Both leave you feeling out of control and miserable. Or maybe someone who was depressed and that led to drug abuse. "little out of touch, little insane; it's just easier than dealing with the pain" That is a great line. I know the pain and I don't like to deal with it either. |

People sit around and complain together about all their problems. It seems very high-schoolish to me, where someone breaks up with you and you are like "Why?" Maybe I just feel that way because I was in high school when this song came out. I LOVE Mike Tramp & White Lion though. They were so fabulous. Did you know they had a cameo in the Tom Hanks movie The Money Pit? I love that trivia bit (and that movie).
Actually, I really think it is about groupies. They spend one night with the band members and then think they are in love, and follow the band to different concerts. Everyone believes that if they could just get that hot musician guy alone they would see how perfect they are together. |

I've always interpreted it as a song about despair at losing a soul mate. Reading these posts makes me wonder if any of you have ever lost someone that you loved very deeply. I have, and the beat and the words in this song feel exactly like that feeling.
Sort of a spinning, sinking, helpless feeling. You feel numb, you go to the funeral, you watch everything happening as if it is on a movie screen. You go home and get drunk and angry -- towards the end of the song it seems to be more out of control. Makes me think of broken bottles, smeared mascara, tears and cries and screams and wishing you could die too so you can be with that person again.
Oh, and if we're going to base our opinions on the song being played in a movie, then I guess it's about a ghost since they also played it all through the movie Stir of Echoes. |
