I've taken French lessons for about 5 years now, so I understand some of the content (at least the "shallow" parts; I may not get the deeper meaning with this song, if you understand what I'm trying to say), though I agree with you - the passion lies in the music. I have to thank my French teacher for introducing me to Noir Désir with this song after we'd read a text titled "Une tragédie moderne" about what happened with Bertrand and Marie. |

Are you sure it's 'flesh uncovered after all'? I just can't hear that - I hear 'much in common after all'. That might not make as much sense as 'flesh uncovered...', but that's what I hear anyways. |

"And then he thought it would be cool to build a wall between him and the "fans" so that they could only hear the music, and be forced to love the music for what it is." Hmm, that's not a bad consept per se, but not what Pink Floyd and Roger Waters inteneded. After the famous incident during a concert when Waters spat on a fan (who I think got up on the stage during a song), he felt that he had buildt a wall between himself and the audience. There's more to it, but that's the very rough meaning. |

I love this song, it's slower than other Kaizers songs, but they still pull it off in a great way. For all of you who don't speak Norwegian, here's a quick (and probably sloppy - it's getting late over here, and I'm half asleep already) and pretty literal translation to English: Then the first snow has fallen, but that's not the reason for the cold It won't be necessary to put on more clothes Remember, it's only a game Hey Tony, put down your mandoline 'cause it's your turn to spin the magasine/barrel When the ground is frozen and the pond is cold then you can feel the warmth of metal and the rest of the world know nothing 'cause the snow muffles the sound of a bang (from a gun) And when you have lost no-one can help you When you have lost, then you stand for yourself We don't have requirements for your character It isn't much you need to understand Here everybody's equal in front of Monello's revolver Faith never takes sides There are a lot of references to other songs on the 'Ompa til du Dør' album, so some parts of it may sound strange when you don't know the context. |

| dom_stapleton is correct, however, so is pinkubus_floyd, who submitted these lyrics. On the original album, the first song is as dom_s says; Speak To Me and Breathe as one track. On some later releases, for example the 30th anniversary realease (my edition of DSotM), this track has been split into two parts, giving a track list of 10 songs. | |

"you cried for the moon" How do you guys interpret this part? Especially the word "cry" (English isn't my first language, maybe that's why I have problems with it) - does it mean cry as in tears, or cry as in scream or yell? If it's the latter (which I've always thought), I'm picturing some kind of wolf, a werewolf, a loner, sitting on a hill, howling at the moon - a little sad image, and still it conveys some madness. Something which is clearer is the moon, or luna in Latin; hence lunatic. In Norwegian, månesyk, an old expression, literally moon ill, meant insanity, which again draws Syd's mental illness into this song. Well, that was possibly reading too much into one line, so forgive my rambling. |
