Pet Shop Boys – Left To My Own Devices Lyrics 20 years ago
This song makes me thing of a rich millionaire playboy who doesn’t really have a job or does much with his life. He gets up late, doesn’t have much to do, idle phones his friends, hangs out, shops.
Also, he doesn’t seem to have many skills, and has always had other people and employees doing everything for him. He doesn’t drive because he has always had a chauffer and the line about reading means that he was also not outstanding in school.
And because of his money and privileged life he doesn’t feel the need to be like other people, to have a job and to do all of these things. He also feels like he can be himself and not have to act cool, I think that the line ‘But I don't like to compete, or talk street, street, street’ means exactly that.
The chorus is slightly different. I think that the entire song is addressed to his girlfriend, who he is emotionally distant from, and it’s an attempt to justify his lifestyle. In the chorus he is telling her that like all else in his life, she is also somewhat indifferent to him.
He then goes on describing his lifestyle further, reading the gossip tabloids, about not fitting in even at a young age (maybe this is a reference to homosexuality). I think that the expression ‘round head general’ is a reference to Napoleon Bonaparte. He next talks about his teenage years and fantasies of becoming a writer or actor and philosophers, personalities and music that influenced him.
The next line: ‘It's not a crime when you look the way you do
The way I like to picture you’ makes me think that his girl friend is good looking and that is the only reason why he is with her. Then he describes a little more of his day. I think that it is a very interesting detail he uses the word ‘look’ in stead or ‘read’ when he is using a book.
In the last part of the song he reveals that in fact he wishes his girlfriend to take charge and to help him give some direction to his meaningless life.

Depeche Mode – Strangelove Lyrics 20 years ago
To me this is a song about a relationship where the guy cheats on his girlfriend and she knows about it but still stays with him and they don’t break up even though both of them know they should. That’s why I think the title is strange love, because it is considered strange to want to be in a relationship where one of the parties is unfaithfull.

In the first lines:
There'll be times
When my crimes
Will seem almost unforgivable
I give in to sin
Because you have to make this life liveable

The guy is talking about his need to cheat even though he knows its kind of wrong
Then, he talks about how his girlfriend maybe thinks that this is the last time it will happen but he keeps on doing it again and again, and how, even though this is going on she still likes him:
But when you think I've had enough
From your sea of love
I'll take more than another riverfull
And I'll make it all worthwhile
I'll make your heart smile

In the next lines he is maybe acknowledging that this is how his behavior will always be and how he knows its painful for his girlfriend to be in a unfaithful relationship with him and that maybe she will also cheat on him one day:
Strangelove
Strange highs and strange lows
Strangelove
That's how my love goes
Strangelove
Will you give it to me
Will you take the pain
I will give to you
Again and again
And will you return it

Then he is talks about how he is cheating on her some more and again how this damages the relationship:
There'll be days
When I'll stray
I may appear to be
Constantly out of reach
I give in to sin
Because I like to practise what I preach

I think that the next lines maybe mean that he is willing to try to be faithfull:
I'm not trying to say
I'll have it all my way
I'm always willing to learn
When you've got something to teach
And I'll make it all worthwhile
I'll make your heart smile

The rest of the song maybe means that his girlfriend is tired of his cheating and is also cheating on him but they remain together anyway.

The Cribs – Hey Scenesters Lyrics 20 years ago
I think that this song is about phonies, posers and other people who pretend to be something they are not to fit in and to feel cool.

There is a small discrepancy between the lyrics listed here and on other sites. The line "Someone’s gonna cop it now" in other listings says "Someone’s gonne and copied now" which makes more sense if like I said above this song is in fact about phony people. Maybe someone who owns the original CD could check the lyrics and tell which version is correct.

So I think that scenesters refers to those phonies who go places just to see and to be seen and who only do things because other scenesters are also doing them. This explains the line "Someone’s gonne and copied now" since this sort of people only copy each other, and it aslo explains the lines from the fourth paragraph of the song "Everybody’s happy now! (Nobody ain’t laughin now)". That is, everyone is the same, either colectively mindlessly laughing or serious.

I think that the next two paragraphs are a conversation between two Scenesters (phonies) trashing a girl because she looks diferent and doesn't fit in to the cool group of people but half way through the conversation one of them changes his mind and sees what rediculous lives the cool scenesters really have, he sees that he is a fake nobody and feels ashamed of been that way.

The last paragraph I think that the scenesters are putting peer preassure on the guy that was having second thoughts about doing things just because others are doing them too and telling him to go on been like them and not to let them down.

David Bowie – Young Americans Lyrics 20 years ago
At a certain point in the song the back ground vocal quotes the Beatles' A Day in the Life: 'I read the news today oh boy'.

Any ideas why or what this refers to, or any part of that entire paragraph for that matter?

Eminem – Without Me Lyrics 20 years ago
The point of this website is not to tell the world whether you like or you hate a certain song or artist. The point is to give your interpretation to the lyrics posted. Is it really so hard for you simple ignorant peasants to understand this?

Any way, I think that the Lyrics of ‘without me’ are fairly straight forward in their meaning: the artist ‘s comments on censorship of his work, and them his somewhat self centered idea that the world of rap is centered around him.

But, the does anyone have any idea as to what the first two paragraphs mean refer to?
