as good as your projection onto this song may fit, im gonna say its about nuclear war. ha just joshin. really all i got to say is that it sounds like a dark night of the soul to me, which i think fits with the whole 23 magick concept of the album. |

"Magick Without Tears" and "The Vision and the Voice" are both books by Aleister Crowley. They are NOT Wiccan, they are Thelemic. "How to suck an egg" refers to chapter 69 of The Book of Lies by Crowley. The title is a pun on the number of the chapter: "How to succeed, and how to suck eggs". The Golden Dawn is an influential occult society which Crowley was involved with toward the beginning of his career. Certainly the phrase has a deeper meaning, but thats beside the point. Ah yes and the serpent with the tail on his tongue refers to the oroboros which is a symbol for eternity. And of course "Do what thou wilt shall be the whole of the law." is from Crowley's Book of the Law and is the cornerstone of Thelemic philosophy. |

as much as i love modest mouse, the music video for this song is just terribly unorginal. i am guessing you have never seen the movie version of pink floyd's the wall? watch the segment for comfortably numb and tell me ocean breathes salty music video is not a blatant rip off. |
