| Eagles – Take It To The Limit Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
The “Take it to the limit” lyric refers to living life to it’s fullest (e.g. knowing what is important and aiming towards that limit). And the other lyrics describe not doing that. The lyrics are a little confusing because of their different use of the word “you/you’re” in the line “would you still be mine” vs. its use in the next stanza that starts “And when you’re looking for your freedom”. The line “will you still be mine”, he’s actually talking to a significant other. In the next stanza, it is a generic “you”. Like when one says “you know when you close you’re eyes, it gets dark.”… Meaning – when anyone closes their eyes. So when he says “And when you’re looking for your freedom” – he’s talking about himself, and others in the same situation; and those who keep doing it don’t seem to better their situation – as they keep "coming back for more.” Heck – you could interpret this song as the author trying to find God – “nothing to believe in … [so] show me a sign [so I can] take it to the limit (live life to its fullest, perhaps with God).” But I don’t think it is specifically talking about God. It’s talking about finding what’s important (be it God, true love, meaningful work, or whatever). I could picture a charismatic preacher doing a sermon using this song as a basis. Of course we all know what happened when he finally did get on that highway and was shown the sign. As I recall, it was a dark desert highway… and the sign said “Hotel California.” Last I heard, even though he keeps checking out, they won’t let him leave. Must have chosen the wrong road. |

| Pink Floyd – Wish You Were Here Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| I think this song is about a guy in a relationship that has gone stale -- she thinks it is heaven, he thinks it is hell -- living in a fishbowl -- year after year. "Wish you were here" -- she is there, but not really -- not like she used to be. | |
| They Might Be Giants – Birdhouse in Your Soul Lyrics | 20 years ago |

OK -- here's a possible interpretation. Yes, a bird-shaped nightlight is doing the talking. The nightlight’s job is to protect from darkness. The reference to soul brings into the fold religion. From a Christian's point of view, the nightlight then could be a metaphor for Jesus (as others in the forum have suggested). To be a Christian you must ask Jesus into your heart. The song is asking you to make a birdhouse in your soul; presumably so the bird can protect you from darkness always (not just in the room where the nightlight lives, which could be a church). So yes, I agree that the bird is in fact a metaphor for Jesus. Or if you're not Christian, then the bird nightlight is your religion’s savior; whoever or whatever that might be. |

| Styx – Come Sail Away Lyrics | 20 years ago |

This song proves that Dennis De Young is a true profit. He wrote it in the mid 70's, yet it accurately predicts the 1997 plight of the "Heaven's Gate" cult -- who poisoned themselves so that they could join the aliens traveling in the wake of commit Hale-Bopp. At one time Heaven's Gate thought that they were angles, but to their surprise.... yep, that's right, they (the commit people) were actually aliens -- and Heaven’s Gate took the call to sail away with them. So now that we know DeYoung is a profit -- we must also understand that soon the world will be controlled my Roboto's. |
