I hate this song. :) Not really, but I am married to a Zac (he is Zac without a "k") and I don't like to hear about people named Zac being with people named Sara. My name is Christina. /smile |

Oh, and the part about the one world vision turning us into compromise.,, Take, for example, President Bush and his "Coalition of the Willing." Despite the fact that many countries disagreed with his decision, it still holds that many people were rallying under the banner of "Global Democracy." That's our one world vision. It sounds nice, but to accomplish it SO many lives are compromised. Do the means really justify the end? And is the end really desirable. Compromise gone too far eventually just turns into homogeny. |

Perhaps this falling out is not between the two lovers. The singer could easily be comforting his soulmate as they lament the deplorable condition of the world right now. They are both disgusted by how things are right now, we've warmed our planet to the point where the seas are sinking, the skies in so many countries are clouded by bomb-smoke nearly every day. The government, put in to place as an aid to man, is now just selfish and murderous. So many people are religious and think that leads to morality, but the USA is waging a crusade against Islam. Is it worth it to "love" a god to the exclusion of loving your fellow man? Like I said, it's a lament. They're so sad at, essentially, the dying breaths of humanity. But there is no need for his soulmate to cry, because regardless of what we do to this world, soulmates will be eternally alive in each other's hearts. |

On a Garden State note... Zach Braff has introduced me to so many great artists. He won a Grammy for his soundtrack for Garden State. He has a blog that is connected to the Garden State website and he recommends a lot of his favorite music. Rachel Yamagata is someone really worth buying/downloading. You should look up her lyrics to the song "The Reason Why". |

Every time I listen to this song I can't remember why I like it so much. The opening is small and not too compelling. The chorus just started on my ipod. "So what if you catch me, where would we land." And then I remember how much I love this song and put it on repeat. It makes me pay attention and it makes me get lost in the beautiful harmony. Beautiful song. |

I would like to acknoledge the amazing piano in this song. /piano is AMAZING! And aside from Ben's skills as a pianist/vocalist, can we even START talking about his spectacular composition skills? He is also a very poignant lyricist. I love (as in adore, as in want to have sex with) this CD. I am VERY surprised that no one mentioned the irony in the title of this song. "Ascent" has a very positive connotation, rising up is something that most people associate with success and happiness. This song could have just as easily been "The Descent of Stan" and none of us would have thought it didn't fit. :( It's unfortunate that many people sacrifice their ideals for money and status. That is not the kind of ascent I want to make in my life. |
