I can't believe nobody has commented on this song yet...absolutely beautiful!
I think its pretty self-explanatory, he is back stage (perhaps waiting to go on) observing a dancer amongst a group of dancers, and is taken back by her beauty. He also describes the shared feeling of what it feels like to perform in front of an audience. However, At the end he feels that perhaps the dancer's beauty is so profound it shouldn't be released, maybe so he can have the satisfaction of being the only one who has seen it. |

I think this song is about James told from the point of view of someone close to him. Maybe since he's gained fame, those who believed in him early on in his career have told him lately that they always knew he would make it, and so he wrote this as a tribute to those people. |

Even though it might be about a club, I agree with Berrieg. Knowing the he was born in 1974, I thought this was about his parents. Maybe they told him a story about how their relationship was before he was born, and as a tribute, he wrote a song about it. |

I think this song is about a guy who is really into a girl, but doesn't want to show her that he is because he doesn't want to complicate things, perhaps their friendship. Although it seems he doesn't have confidence, he actually does, but just keeps it to himself. He knows he's right for her and better than the other guys she talks about, but he also knows that she can't see that right now and doesn't tell her because he thinks it will mess things up, so once again, keeps it to himself. All in all, I think this song is about the things in our heads that we wish we could say sometimes, but refrain because of later consequences. |

For those who said it has an Iron & Wine feel to it, I agree. I actually bought the latest Iron & Wine cd, Our Endless Numbered Days, the same time I bought Plans. I had only heard 1 Iron & Wine song before I bought OEND, so it was a gamble to purchase it. Needless to say, I had the great feeling of listing to it and Plans on the drive home from Best Buy. And yes, both blew my away...no bad purchases today!! |

Great song. I personally like the version off the Live 2003 album. Very powerful guitar and piano at the end. This song means alot to me because the girl that I personally compare to perfect says this is her favorite Coldplay song. Really can't go wrong with this song. |
