| Coldplay – Viva la Vida Lyrics | 16 years ago |
| For me, this song is about being drunk with power, having everything you want, but living blindly. The relgious imagery is definitely there -- no doubt about that. It is about looking back at your life and feeling so foolish because you thought you had it all, but you always had NOTHING. He is grateful to be where he is now, and wouldn't ever want that power -- he just wants to be an honest man now, and values life's most simple and precious things. | |
| Coldplay – We Never Change Lyrics | 17 years ago |
| To me, this song is about expressing a desire to live in complete harmony with the world and people -- the wooden house is is a symbol for simplicity. Unfortnately, humankind is driven by all sorts of "sin" and has to screw it all up, always. | |
| Audioslave – Like a Stone Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
I was about to post in more detail, but when I came across biosylum's explanation -- it was perfect. Please go read that person's post. He gives a great explanation -- with support. "Bruised sky and bled wine," ... that , no doubt, is about the sacrifice and our redemption. Even if you are not religious (or hate religion), this song is DEFINITELY about losing and finding God again. He did wish to die at first, but only because he was so lost. He finds some peace while he waits "Like a stone" (another bible reference)... because the of the song lines: In dreams until my death I will wander on Wander on, meaning that he will continue LIVING. I know that to many of you, religion leaves a bad taste in your mouths, but it is a universal human longing, and the bible (whether you find truth in it, or not) is a great work of literature with so much depth. This great work brings a lot of peace to many's fear and confusion about life and death. So, ultimately, this person in the song is full of death, waiting, searching, and wanting to return back to a place that he loved once - -his first love -- when he knew God's peace. He wants to be in God's HOUSE. |

| Tom Petty – Mary Jane's Last Dance Lyrics | 18 years ago |
|
Red October hit the nail right on the head! Mary Jane, the girl, is the drug. At the end, she is probably left him (in a hotel by herself, probably not!)........ She went back to her Indiana ways with the Indiana boys. (aka "nightfall") The reference to marijuana is definitely there. Sorry, Candy-Oh, weed is important to the smoker. Tom Petty is very inspired and the lyrics come when he finishes a good bowl of smoke. Oh and also, for those who said it was about "quitting drugs" -- no and no. Life-long smokers don't see it as an addiction, but a pleasurable part of life -- it enhances. (Mary Jane, the girl, enhanced the narrator's life, in this song.) |

| Dave Matthews Band – Dreamgirl Lyrics | 18 years ago |

OH and also....... I forgot to mention the sex/love thing that a female mentioned here. (I am female too.) Dave mixes love and lust -- but I can't see why you'd find that so disappointing. You say that there is more to love? Sure there is.....but that is the age-old misundertanding between the sexes. If you give a man who loves you lots of great sex -- you inspire him for love. And the woman is the opposite - if you give her lots of non-sex love -- then you will inspire her for SEX! |

I am just appauled at how much over-analyzing some of you have done with this song. If you are dreaming of your "dreamgirl" and then you wake up -- and you have an urge to make love to the girl after that -- then SHE IS YOUR DREAMGIRL! Does that make sense? Even if the girl in your dreams looked different. Its a moment of REALIZATION!!! He is saying, "wow, she is the one!" (Trust me on this, I'm pretty good at analyzing poetry and literature. I do this by making sure my ideas have support -- plus I stand back and just feel it! The muses do it for you too!) |

| Dave Matthews Band – Steady As We Go Lyrics | 19 years ago |

Ilovealkaline: Nothing "disney" about it. Disney would be everything is grand and happy, but nothing further from that. Rough times can be.....well, just that... pretty rough. And many relationships fall apart during bad times. Nothing makes love stronger than facing some serious hell and getting through it all. |

| Dave Matthews Band – Crash Into Me Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
I don't agree with the people who say that the ball and chain thing means that she is married to someone else. (Listen to the next line, "tied to me tight tie me up again...") Basically, they were together at one point, the lovemaking was so hot that he must have her again. The lines below are kind of like going back to when he did have her at one point.... Why do people want to separate the sex and the love? She may be with someone else right now ("who's got their claws in you my friend Into your heart I'll beat again") She may be with someone else right now, but he plans to get her back! Not just get inside her (sex), but also get back into heart!!!! Sex is powerful, love is powerful -- but together two people CRASH!!!! Okay as for the crashing, this is what I think: When Dave sings "And you come crash into me," he is describing her climaxing. When a man take a woman to the pleasure peak, her body responds and crashes into him. Then that results into the next line of the song which says he will come into her. (Simultaneously seeing fireworks! Hello!!!) Another supporting line is "touch your lips," to me is how some women touch their face when they are in deep ecstacy. Imagine a woman lost in pleasure, her eyes closed, and her hand is running down her face, fingers tracing her lips. "In a boy's dream" is simply saying that this experience he had was like the ultimate -- the ideal experience a boy can have. And the word boy doesn't mean a 15 year old, like someone said. A "boy" is a word that describes how a boy/man can just be in AWE and overwhelmed with a wonderful sexual experience. The realization of the universal fantasy. When the lyrics mention "gone overboard... forgive me," it just is a way of saying that she has him in a complete FRENZY. Women like things to start out teasingly slowly, and he was just so excited that his passion was trembly and hurried. Now the "hike up your skirt," is about how he couldn't get enough of her visually. He wants to see more and more of her now, because he wants her again. He wants her ball and chain and her crashes into him. The last line about the windows is going back to how he doesn't have her, so he is obsessed. He watches her, although the window may be metaphorical. The window thing is a way of describing how he doesn't have her and watches her as he fantasizes about how he once had her ...... nude in his arms. He wishes he was "tied up and twisted" (going back to ball and chain), and says "the way I'd like to be." Tied up to her in every way and twisted meaning the knot is twisted .......... may this "crashing" experience never end. chasemice@yahoo.com |

| Jeff Buckley – Eternal Life Lyrics | 19 years ago |
|
paffy: I disagree. If anything, he is saying "quit hiding behind your religion to justify your ugliness." Since the beginning, man has hid behind religion to justify murder, hate, and all kinds of evil. (the usual "religion to control masses" type of deal.) Buta true "believer" would agree with the above statement. I don't know what Jeff Buckley's religous beliefs were, but the fact that he pointed this wrong out says to me he was saying "that's not what it is supposed to be about! It's about love..." At the end of the song he says, "You better turn around and blow your kiss *GOODBYE* to life eternal." |

skater, I don't think the message in the video is as preachy as you make it sound. It's about an emptyness that she feels, which leads to self-destruction |

k dogg: This song isn't really romantic, although I wish it would be myself, lol. If you read the lyrics carefully -- its about a moment without strings attached. It's about not having any expectations or being at risk of getting hurt, yet the night is still magical to him. |

| Tori Amos – Juarez Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
The song talks about the HUNDREDS of women in Juarez, Mexico who have been brutally and sadistically murdered in the last 10 years or so. Juarez is the bordertown to El Paso, TX, and there are many factories over there that produce electronic parts that get back shipped over here. They pay these girls ridiculously low wages (A few dollars a day or less). Who is killing these girls? Organized crime. The sad thing is that the government of Mexico is all tangled up in organized crime, and no one can help these girls. These sickos kill them for SPORT. They rape and mutilate their bodies, and bury them in the desert --- in other words -- femicide. | Dave Matthews Band – Steady As We Go Lyrics | 20 years ago |
| You don't quit on love, when things get rough. If you have that gold, it's worth it to hang on. It's about being there for each other, no matter what. | |
| Dave Matthews Band – The Space Between Lyrics | 20 years ago |
|
I know that everyone always says that a song will always have its own personal meaning, and of course that is true. But if you are to read the lyrics to this song, its is clear that the "SPACE BETWEEN" is the beautiful times. All the bad times are worth facing and getting though because these lovers have their "Space Between." The "space between" the sad times has to be more powerful and deep to keep a relationship together. (I agreed 100 percent with the poster named Peppermint.) |
