This song, I really think, reflects the difficult transition of a desparate shut-in to a more open life, and the turmoil it elicits. His denial of his own need for a companion pushes him to substance abuse and anxiety in a world he had previously denied. He learns to accept the new in life and finds how easy things come when he wasn't afraid. Its touching, bittersweet harmonies just resonate with me. |

I think the song takes on a meaning beyond what BNL was going for:
It is about someone who fell in love and it changed him. It gave his life a new meaning and he looks back on all the little stuff that he used to worry about so much and knows that it wasn't really important. I agree that it is self-acceptance, but I think it is more like how you learn to acccept your failures after you're accepted by someone else. |
