The Damned – 1 of the 2 Lyrics 17 years ago
I would say, and I could be wrong, this song is about someone that is angry and shuts out the world but hangs onto someone like a leech because they cannot face their own problems... like a clingy girlfriend or something... and they kind of do themselves in with their own bs or live in a life where they continue to lie to themselves "sedation"

Adam Ant – Prince Charming Lyrics 19 years ago
I think the song is telling men don't be afraid to be fashionable and handsome. Especially since this was in the 80s where fashion was highly androgynous, especially on the music scene following both the punk and funk scenes (Siouxsie, Prince, Madonna, etc.). I think the song is saying don't be afraid to present yourself as the 'freak' that you are, don't be afraid to wear what you want when you want, and people will say this and that but show off, don't lower your standards, be beautiful.

The Doors – Hyacinth House Lyrics 20 years ago
This song means, to me, that Jim Morrison felt so pulled because of his success, his talent, etc. that he really didn't have anyone around him that was just allowing him to be. Everyone was pulling on him, demanding things of him, etc.

The hyacinth house, in my opinion, represents Jim Morrison's place of getting away from the world, like turning to his inner self, his meditative sanctuary. But, with probably being on the road and around people all the time, he didn't have a place to turn. So people were always there. "To please the lions in this day" I think the lions are still the people pulling on him that want so much out of him, thinking only of themselves in their "friendship" with Morrison. So Jim needs a friend that is not demanding of him, a friend that respects his space and isn't always following him. The "bathroom" once again is a private place, a place of self, so it restresses that Jim had no private place to turn to, people were always around following him.

The Jack of Hearts line seems to point to a way Jim had to get out of all that pressure and stress but even that was taken away from him, so he is trapped in the situation of being pulled. I don't really have a clue what his Jack of Hearts is, so I'm very vague on this.

But overall in my opinion this song is about Jim Morrison's need for less stressful people in his life that will allow him to be him without wanting something out of him.

The Cure – Play for Today Lyrics 21 years ago
Pure teenage angst and rebellion. I feel its about this girl she expects Robert to do things for her benefit and Robert is saying no, I am my own individual, don't expect me to do this and that, don't expect me to bow down to your laws of relationships/sex whatever, I will do as I feel and I'm not playing your games!!!

I can't relate if you can't tell
