Spoon – Don't Make Me A Target Lyrics 18 years ago
Yeah, raztes-how, I was raised in Texas and it's not really an "apt description." Maybe if you said "rural" Texas, but hey, rural New York is the same way. And it's kind of funny that you say that because Spoon is from Austin, TX. Clearly not a parking lot town.

The Shins – Saint Simon Lyrics 19 years ago
strwbry_gal, I've loved this song for a long time, and then I read Lord of the Flies and I had the same thought you did. This song really does seem to match Simon; in fact, I looked up this song here to see if it was actually a reference to him. Apparently it isn't, but you aren't crazy (at least I hope not, because them I am too :P) - it's a funny coincidence that Simon's character matches this song so well.

The White Stripes – Blue Orchid Lyrics 20 years ago
I agree with everyone who said that it was a religious reference. When I first heard it, those were my first thoughts as well. And if anyone has any doubts as to whether the people with this opinion are just Christian fanatics or something, I can say that I'm a Hindu and that the song simply uses some really strong references that you can't ignore. These are pretty much all mentioned by other people already so I won't restate them, but there are. My take on the song.

Green Day – St. Jimmy Lyrics 21 years ago
Whatsername-409: I thought your comment was very interesting and helpful. The Catcher in the Rye is one of my favorite books as well and I can definitely see how Billie Joe could have been influenced by Holden's character.
The whole plot of this album reminds me a lot of Fight Club, for anyone who has seen it. Whatsername reminds me of Marla and the Jesus of Suburbia is the Jack personality, while St. Jimmy is Tyler Durden. My take on it is that they are both different parts of the same kid--he becomes St. Jimmy and in Homecoming Part I, he kills the personality that lead him farther down the path of becoming an American idiot, though he didn't know he was becoming one at the time. Whatsername left him because of what he had become. Eh, this has been said a lot I know, but just adding in my two cents worth. Green Day is an awesomely talented group :)
