| Against Me! – Baby, I'm an Anarchist! Lyrics | 19 years ago |

To me, this song is about the lack of willingness to do anything and everything necessary to incite revolution. It's all well and good to profess your beliefs. It's another thing entirely to actually act. Left and Right did come from the post-revolution French National Assembly, but at the time ideas such as "Marxism", "Socialism", "Communism" and "Fascism" did not exist and definitely not under these names. To say that "hardcore" punks won't pick up on the references in this song is sadly true. The post-hardcore hipsters of today certainly would not, but the modern iteration of hardcore music is not grounded politically anymore. Real punks don't do anything just because "it's punk." On that note, whoever said this song is about a guy and a girl who can't get married because of their political beliefs needs to go back to listening to whatever pop music is out today and stop ruining punk. |

| Rebbal Ace - the lyrics are correct for the song, but the line you refer to (That is not dead which can eternal lie, / And with strange aeons death may die.) comes from another of Lovercraft's stories, "The Nameless City." I'm not sure what all books it's in, but I have a copy of "The Doom that came to Sarnath" with that story in it. | |
