I love this song. It is one of the best on the American V disc. His voice is so haunting. When you read the lyrics, it sounds like the prisoner was set free after being imprisoned wrongfully, but when you hear Cash singing it, it sounds like he was executed and was free in that sense. It is a true masterpiece, in every sense of the word. Cash's final words were some of his strongest. |

I listened to a 9-11 tribute with this song and there were entirely too many audio clips. It covered up too much of the song and became extremely redundant. It is a good song. |

Right on, coviblu. I agree with that. It bothers me how the workforce and education systems are trying to avoid being racist by giving certain groups of people the advantages. It's hypocritical on so many levels. Oh well, that's just the way things are. I'm not sure if anyone else saw this, but on CNN there was a guy (Reverend Sean Paul, or something) trying to ban white people from the rap genre. The news guy confronted him and asked if he thought it was racist and the guy was like, "You can't accuse a black man of being racist.". I had a good laugh at that. |

This song is great. I love the line "... Turn over everything, time can heal us again ...". I agree that it is probably about returning to a failed relationship. I'm not sure about the drug thing, but I never have been good at looking at the deeper meaning of a song. Great stuff. |

This song is interesting. It's one of my favorite NMH songs. The one thing that annoys me is that lady that says "Come on..." when he's saying "... and it's not done yet..." in the beginning. I hate that! The vocals are great in this song. It's a deep song. |

This song is great. The whole CD is superb, but this stands out as one of the better songs on the disc. I absolutely love the lines: "Is someone there to hold you? Is someone there to take you away from me?" because they remind me of some feelings I had for a female and she would always bounce between guys and end up back at me. The feelings are dead, but I like to think at what might have been. There are so many parts of this song that matched with my feelings at the time. It's always an amazing feeling when you are in this sad mood about something and you find a song that describes it perfectly. I wish that would happen more often. |

I love this song. It reminds me of driving home after I spent the night with a girl that I used to like. I had it playing in my car and it was just so beautiful. I haven't gotten much of a meaning out of it, but it's an amazing song. |

It's great that someone else sees the greatness in this song. I've tried to get other people to listen to it, but they are ignorant. Sorry to hear about your situation. Music can be healing, though. Music, including this song, has helped me through a lot of tough times. This one actually tends to depress me. It's so beautiful and I have so many memories of good times that I can't relive again tied to it. |

| This song is great, I agree. It is so beautiful. I also see it as being about regret and finally waking up and changing your way of life. It symbolizes all of the changes that the writer went through previously and that it served as a reminder that there is always a chance to start over, no matter how bad things are.
