well to start off, the "cold heart orb that rules the night" is referring to the moon, not some kkk reference as suggested by sublime. The entire album Nights in White Satin is on (Days of Future Passed) is a concept album which takes you through a whole day beginning with the dawn (Dawn is a Feeling) continuing to morning (Another Morning) and then to the lunch break (Peak Hour) as they call it.
Side 2 goes into the afternoon (Forever Afternoon (Tuesday?)), then to evening (The Sunset: Twilight Time) and finally we come here to the night (Nights in White Satin).
You should really listen to the whole album to get the full effect. Everything goes together much better and is really truly amazing when fully listened to. Plus many of the songs are even better than Nights believe it or not. Come on people, branch out a bit!!! |

Even though I always heard this song was about the civil rights movement, it always had a much more special meaning to me personally.
I have had a lot of troubles in my life, family problems, personal troubles, and just hard times ever since I was little really. There was a lot of drug addiction and emotional abuse in my family (father mostly) when I was younger (and still some today) and my mom was a huge beatles fan. Whenever I heard this song though, it made me feel a lot better somehow. I did not hear it for a long time, and then a few years back, times were getting harder, and a friend of mine played it on the guitar when I was over at his house with some friends. I was pretty much in tears when I heard it, because it just brought back all the memories i used to have and the emotions along with it.
It always makes me feel like no matter what has happened to you, you can learn to fly again and get through all that has happened to you. It also made me feel like I could just escape from everything I was feeling. It is a very emotional and personal song to me, and I hope to get a tattoo to always remind me of this fact. I want to get just the words "take these broken wings and learn to fly" and some musical bars with the notes from the song. Any other suggestions for me? |

i always had figured this song was about something sexual, but i never was really sure until my mom heard it on the volkswagen commercial. i told her how much i loved this song and she was like 'yeah this is about like sex, you know that right?' ha...i love that i talk with my mom about sex and drinking and stuff all the time. i always kinda felt like molly was a dominatrix (good spelling?). |

the first time i heard this song i seriously kind of freaked out. i was in my boyfriends car and i thought it sounded like mm, but it was so weird. now that i hear it and actually listen to it, i love it to death of course

It kind of makes me sick that this is the only Led Zeppelin song that has this many responses on it. Yes, it is an amazing song, but so many people only know of Zeppelin through this song and then go around saying they are fans. It is just upsetting because this is the only major recognition they get when they have so many other songs which are much better and much more amazing than this one. Just venting....something to think about.... |

leaving someone and trying to still be with them is just too difficult. i felt this way about all my friends when i moved away from my hometown about a year and a half ago. and i know it's going to be just as hard to leave all my friends here when i go to college and they all go on their ways to college too. i can't imagine being without them...especially my boyfriend...even though i'm unsure of what we are right now....it's just too hard. i cry like everytime i hear this song |

so true about breaking up with someone....has a very special meaning to me in that respect. to have someone very close to you that you just want to help with drug problems, but just can't. the only thing you can do is just let them go and hope they understand it on their own....sad but true.... |
