I have many theories for what this song is about.. a relationship be it romantic or friendship, it could, like someone else mentioned be also about wider society. Whatever, it's just a beautiful. I discovered this song when a close friend of mine passed away in May '06 and it brought up a lot of emotions. It was almost as if my friend was saying these words to me "Your heavy heart Is made of stone And it's so hard to see you clearly You don't have to be on your own You don't have to be on your own" The line "And I love you, please come home" always brought tears to my eyes, because I wish he could. Some of the lyrics fit perfectly at the time. A couple of months after he died and things were settling down, I realised what a beautiful love song it was and it was played at my wedding last month. |

I agree with the interpretations here that it's about " mixing up your feelings of friendship with love".... I can relate. It breaks my heart |

I also wonder what it would have been like if it was a finished version? *ponders* I do love this version though... the music is just saw raw, along with the lyrics, it just oozes sexiness! |

Jeff wrote this song for Joan Wasser, the girl he was seeing before he died. This song is so very sexy; can't help thinking what a lucky lady Joan was. |

Favourite Jeff Buckley song. Ever. When I first heard this song, I was having a pretty emotional time and it's like I could feel the pain the song. When I listened again, minus the personal angst, I could STILL feel the pain and emotional stuff. I knew this song would be special to me. It really tugs at my heartstrings... I litterally ache at the line "Broken down and hungry for your love, with no way to feed it" I can't put my finger on why... it's almost overwhelming emotion. As for interpretation - regret, loss, loneliness, guilt. the end of Jeff's relationship with Rebecca Moore, in a way that listeners can feel his pain, as well as hear it. |

| I'm not keen on this cover at all, I mean, it coulda been worse, but it's still pretty poor. For me, it just lacks the emotion of Jeff's version. Listening to the original breaks my heart everytime... this was just another soulless cover version. | |
