Brand New – Limousine Lyrics 17 years ago
This song is about Katie Flynn, a 7 year-old girl (hence the seven, not a reference to "Seventy Times Seven") who was killed by a drunk driver on her way home from a wedding at which she was a flowergirl (hence the reference to the wedding and "flowers in the aisle"). Katie was decapitated in the accident and her mother, who was in the limousine behind Katie's, got out to see if Katie was alright and found her head on the road.

The thing with this song though, is it's not just a recount of the event. Jesse also manages to express his frustration with embedded Western cultural trends ("He's drinking up, he's all-American"). It's such an emotionally-packed song, it seems to accurately relfect the mother's anguish.

Amazing on so many levels.

Pretty sure this is about the 's' word and everyones' obsession with it. LOL @ Cowboy Bebop.

The Mars Volta – Meccamputechture Lyrics 19 years ago
Directly from Wikipedia:

"Mecca" = holiest city in the Islamic faith.
"ampu" = from the word 'amputate'.
"techture" = from 'architecture'.

It's religious themes are fairly obvious, and Omar said in an interview "I think it's just so unnecessary to believe in this blue-eyed, white bearded, white-haired God". That seems to be the running theme throughout the album, although I haven't heard the whole album.

Mars Volta seems to be getting a little more... conventional in the way they make music. The thing I didn't like in their previous records was the improvised guitar fills. They didn't seem to follow a pattern or rhythm, and their ideas were vague but I've heard Amputechture breaks away from their earlier stuff. Good good =)

Scary Kids Scaring Kids – The City Sleeps In Flames Lyrics 19 years ago
The guitars are lacking presence, which leads me to believe that it is a bit of a mixture between the constant state of war that the world is in. It's a bit of a polit-punk song. An apocalyptic song would be more 'filled' I think.

AFI – Miss Murder Lyrics 19 years ago
Yeah I think it's about Jesus, but the lyrics have a bit of a sarcastic or sinical tone to them. I don't know if it's supposed to be blasphemy or what?

The Spill Canvas – The Tide Lyrics 20 years ago
The three children are all victims of divorced parents:
"...he's wondering what love is,
and why it has to end"

Throughout their childhood, they wanted to be able to change what had happened:
"They were eager to learn,
to be taught, and to teach"

Their mother, having had bad experiences with love, told her children (Veronica, Vada and Dade) to avoid it:
"...take this advice, live by every word
Love is just a hoax so forget anything that you have heard"

The whole song really comes down to divorce and neglect and the huge impact it has on children's lives. Adults seem so distracted when they make decisions that could ruin their children's lives.

An absolutely BRILLIANTLY written song. One of my all time favourites and it always will be.

Led Zeppelin – Black Dog Lyrics 20 years ago
Isn't it about depression? Because "Black Dog" has basically become a common phrase now.

Jack Johnson – Taylor Lyrics 20 years ago
I'm pretty sure this song is about Taylor going off the rails and being separated from her family because of the lifestyle that she chose - that is, prostitution. Peter Patrick sees Taylor and his life starts to fall apart (his wife leaves him etc) but he thinks he is OK because he attends church.

Finch – Insomniatic Meat Lyrics 20 years ago
This album is awesome, but What It Is To Burn was better. I don't think a whole lot of thought goes into Finch lyrics these days though.

The Mars Volta – Cassandra Gemini Lyrics 20 years ago
Poetry. This song - no - this ALBUM is poetry. The Mars Volta's storytelling techniques are incredible and often baffling. Either that or we're over-analyzing.

I picked up this album today and I sat in a dark room listening to it for about 80 minutes straight. The album is so powerful and moving. THIS is art/jazz/psychadelic rock at it's finest.

The only criticism I have is about the crazy amounts of monotonous random noise. If the build-up sections had a bit more musical structure and patterns I think I'd appreciate this album even more.

Blink-182 – Adam's Song Lyrics 20 years ago
This is by far the best Blink song, because it isn't pop. It's a serious song and the subject matter needs to be taken in. I think if this was Blink 182's only song I'd appreciate it more.

Adam's Song is about Adam, who is depressed and thinking about life. Throughout the song, the experiences people have through life are mentioned. I think Blink 182 is trying to tell us that even the smallest things can impact people in huge ways, and even drive them to suicide.

Thursday – War All The Time Lyrics 20 years ago
when the pieces fall it's like a last-day parade
and the fires in our streets start to rage
so wave to those people who long to wave back
from the fabric of a flag that sang

"Love all of the time."

Incredible album. I've been listening to Thursday on and off the last few years but I only just got a Thursday album. I'm glad I started with this one. It's an extremely powerful song and you can basically imagine what it could be about just by looking at the title.

Brilliant.

Taking Back Sunday – Cute Without The 'E' (Cut From The Team) Lyrics 21 years ago
Hey dudes, first post here :D

Hey DaveyHavoc666, too late... TBS are already mainstream. Damn you Where You Want To Be!

This song's pretty catchy though. I think it's fairly obvious what it means.
