Hotel California is a crack den. "u can check out anytime u like but u, can never leave" refers to the addiction; u can go but u'll keep on having to come bak 2 get more.
"We are all prisoners here, of our own device" refers to the fact that u made the choice ur self to take the drugs, and now ur addicted, and its ur fault.

I've been searchin the net, havin a look at wot sum ppl can pick out of Stairway to Heaven, and its obvious that the song's meaning depends on the listener. to me, the song is representing the spriral down to death of a woman hu is on drugs.
"buying her stairway to heaven" means that she's buying the drugs that will inevitably be the cause of her death. "but she has to make sure cos we know sometimes words hav 2 meanings", she's makin sure that she's gettin the rite stuff, for there are many slang terms. "bustle in ur hedgerow" and "spring clean for the May Queen" is the addicts hidding in the bushes, waiting to steal(spring clean) so they can buy more drugs. The piper is death. the tune is the effect of the drugs. Definitely 1 of their best, and obviously 1 of the most meaningful |
