I definitely agree with malli321. I believe the song speaks to Christians who have lost sight of the fact that our walk with God is all about love. I believe it also speaks to various denominations of the Church. While all of us have been guilty of it at one time or another, the song takes a fairly blatant stab at Catholicism in particular. Listen for the background vocals around 1:45 in the song singing “Precious rosary.” With all of the rituals and rites that Catholics claim to be necessary for salvation, Jesus is forced into the co-pilot's seat. "Light of the world are you still here?" Obviously Jesus is the Light of the world. This means that the rhetorical question posed is making the point that in the midst of all of the religion, Jesus has become obscured. "And are we illuminating?" Jesus is the light, and we are to reflect His light. When He is covered up by man-made traditions, the next question to follow is whether or not we are truly living as burning fires for the world to see, consumed by love. "When love becomes a delicate display" Many believe that love for God is best shown in weekly practices and ceremonies. This line speaks against that, suggesting that love is instead something different; it is wild, it is unpredictable, it is passionate. Love cannot be tamed to one hour long service in a week. It can't be forced into our altar calls or modern worship services either. Love is a lifestyle that will affect every aspect of your life. "Our hearts, a bubble maker's dream...moved on by winds of everything" I believe this line suggests that we'll believe whatever comes our way. We'll quickly absorb the next new idea to hit the wind from Rome without first testing it against the Scriptures. If the song really does speak to, in part, Catholics, than this line could be about many of their doctrines which are unfounded in Scripture. "As we deny that Love is still the king" I changed the word Love to have a capital 'L' here because: Jesus is our king-->Jesus is God-->God is love I might really be going out on a limb here but I think that you can pull from this that God is the one waiting all alone because we have left Him out of the equation. It's been buried by a human intellect that we have begun to hold in greater esteem than God Himself. He’s not part of it…HE IS IT!!! Anyway what I get out of this song. God bless! |
