I always considered this song as being about an apocolyptic day and trying to figure out how our existance was not a waste of time...and coming up with nothing to support that theory.... kid of depressing, yes, but the song is so damn awesome that its forgiven. |

Hmm. I suppose it could be about having things screwed up, or going kinetically numb, but I always just saw it as a lazy sunday sort of thing (the common phrase, not the SNL sketch). You simply get rid of the worries that the weekday grind cause for you, but, being Sunday, there's that nagging knowledge in the back of your mind that you gotta get back to it the next day. And with a side of feeling unimportant, and wondering if anyone would notice if you missed work the next day.
I get that a lot, but this song is great for snapping you out of it if you feel that way. It just makes you realize that tiem spent dreading the next day is time wasted. |

I think it's just supposed to be coupled with the first song on the track, 'Tonight is the Night I Fell Asleep at the Wheel" at the end of which, the narrator of the song dies, and this is their vision of the afterlife, or heaven. Quantly beautiful, serenely complex and relevent. I think it's beautiful that way. |

I love this song. Portnoy is perfection.
Scenes from a Memory is my favorite album of all time (needess to say, also my favorite concept album) and this is one of the finest examples from it. |
