This song perfectly describes the constant battle for a work-life balance. It's nice to know I'm not the only one that constantly feels the amazing, never-ending stresses of work, providing for a family, paying a mortgage, making sure your kids are healthy & safe, being there emotionally for your wife, and all while putting your own needs on the backseat until you have time to deal with them. I totaly agree. This is so obviously a cry out of frustration. I graduated from a divinity school, so I know a thing or two about religious f**kers that think they are holy and righteous. He (much like myself) is tired of hearing about how much better you can be. He is saying that he is sick of always feeling inadequate becuase some hypocrite told him that he needed to change things about himself. My favorite part is in the live version where he says, "But you pray down on your knees mother F*ckers, you don't say God is on my side." To me, this is a reference to these religious people. They view themsleves as so holy, and they are doing all of the right actions, but there is nothing in their heart to back it up. They look at him and tell him that he's not going to go to heaven because Christianity is like a club to these people. Dave is not in their club. He, however thwarted his actions may be, has a much clearer interpretation of who God really is. |

I think with pndrlw. I think that he probably really had this dream and when he woke up, he wrote about it real quick before he forgets it. That's why he says, "It's Passing, It's Passing." He's startind to forget the dream just like we all forget dreams after it's been a few seconds after we wake up. Now, I do think that dreams have meanings, so it would be interesting to find out what this dream means. Maybe it means that God symbolizes structure and authority and the right way of living, and by him killing God, he is going in a direction that he knows is wrong. ie, drugs, etc. I'm not sure... anybody good at dream interpretations?? |

| This is one of my favorite Dave songs. To me, it is saying that you shouldn't try to be something that you know you're not supposed to be. When it first came out, I was dating this girl that was totaly wrong for me just because I thought she was so hot. Everytime I heard this song, it got under my skin because I knew that I was becoming something that wasn't me. The part about wanting to be a bird... I wanted us to be right for each other.
