I just realised that when we hear the story of Jim in the last verse Dianna is not actually speaking to him right then. He is telling us of what happened when she through him out. I had never really thought about it being his "old lovers OLD house" meaning she has now moved. I don't know if all the stories are actually connected. I think it may actually just be telling of the different ways love can fade. |

I can't believe no one has commented about this yet. It is such an amazing song.I realise it is hard to get thought because even my version is a wobbly live one.One point though, there's a tiny wee mistake in these lyrics int he very last verse it goes like this : "And I'm in love with tricks so saw me in half I'm in love with illusions" I saw Rilo Kiley last night live and they were awesome, they are so funneeeeeeeee! |

It explains Jim is tha man who killed himself as in the first chorus it says : " she said, 'the slow fade of love. its soft edge might cut you. and our poor friend jim, well, he just never felt the slow fade of love.'" I love this song, i especially like the way it switches between character and shows different prespectives. The lyrics are adorable, what a beautiful song |

Ok, i pretty much agree with everyone else but i just feel i should put i point in. Jenny or narrator of the song is having an affair with a married man oblivious to the fact he is married to one of her closest friends. She is so happy about it and loves him so dearly, he promises her he will leave his wife and go out to Califorbia to be with her which she is delighted about.She speaks to him on the phone as time is passin and he hasnt left yet to be with her. Later she speaks with her friend who has heard her husband on the phone telling someone he is leaving her to be with this other person. She is upset. Jenny feels awful as she didnt realise it was her friends husband tells her friend he would never leave his wife for her. Also the part "You only married him, you felt your time was running out " I think she only married him because she was pregnant and felt she had to but now she truly loves him or maybe she just felt she was becoming too old to still be searching for true love and now she finally has found her true love just by chance. |

I adore this song. Thanks for all the posts about the meanings of this song because i'm not very sure what to take from it. But i sure know that i enjoy it and thats all that matters right? As for the arguement about teeny boppers and Mtv what does it matter, this is what is taking stopping music being about the music. I think all these ideas about Mtv are dumb, let people listen to what they what..dont get me wrong if i see someone who has heard one song of my favourite bands and now think they are the no. 1 fan it annoys me but what's the need to bring it on somewhere like this. The majority of people arent even dsicussin the song meaning anymore. |

This song is immense, I love the backing track sort of like water? Maybe i think that as when i hear it i think of a scene from a television programme and they are walking on the beach im not sure but nonetheless its awesome. I especially like this part : "And when I see you I really see you upside down But my brain knows better It picks you up and turns you around Turns you around Turns you around " And i agree that it is in reference to your brain flipping the image you tkae in around so you see everthing the right way up. This is such a cute song....just lovely. Naturally, everyone takes different meanings from a song whether they are right or not...well that's a different matter. I personally think this song is about meeting up with an old love, probably your first love and trying to get back what you once had. The girl in the relationship denies what she once said and did and the boy tries to explain to her and after all of it he realises he loves her but must move on. | I have to say I'm afraid my days of liking Blink 182 are well over, they were the first different band i really listened to and influenced my music taste for a long time. Although they have now split up their music nearer the end of their career was no where near as good as songs like The Rock Show. It is just one of those songs which makes you smile and makes you want to sing along and dance to.
