| Tasmin Archer – Sleeping Satellite Lyrics

This song can certainly be attributed to the Apollo mission and all that it entailed.
But it also seems plausible that she is using that mission as a metaphor to a relationship. Is she the "sleeping satellite" that revolved around her partner? Is she refuting the blame? She seems to want to make it work.
She blames him for the "moonlit nights" (romance) but she asks if they flew "to the moon too soon" and that it was "lost in romance"... and the dry seas may be the result of their relationship. She asks if they have "peaked too soon"...
It seems these lyrics may refer to more than just a space mission... perhaps one hell of a metaphor?!? |

I have to agree with Sindrii... I do not get the feeling this song was intended to explain the loss of a partner in the romantic sense (i.e. a "break up"). The lyrics lend themselves to the idea of someone dying (fate has led you through it). She also speaks of apparitions of someone's soul. It's not common to refer to living person as seeing their soul, although it's entirely possible. I find the interpretation regarding the Aeneid very thought-provoking though I'm not entirely convinced that was the goal when the lyrics were created. Perhaps... but I am more of the opinion that this song conveys the feelings pertaining to the aftermath of losing a loved one. |

I'm not sure I entirely agree with any single interpretation of this number but I do not believe this song is blatantly superficial about its meaning. In fact, this song describes a deep and fatalistic relationshiop for me... to a "T." Her lyrics are extremely metaphoric and symbolic. The lines lend themselves to a situation between two people in which one gives all and other person remains mysteriously closed off. Being "brilliant in the morning" and "talking over coffee" are banal situations and art is widely discussed... are these "banalities" the core of the relationship that led to the downfall? They seem to be the things upholding the relationship, whereas the deeper aspects of the relationship are when things are "crazy like that" and what are lacking. ???? |

These lyrics may be taken for what they're worth but I think there is a stronger, underlying message - it sounds as if he's saying that his jealousy led to the destruction of a relationship. He's been throught a lot and realizes that he would be better off or happier with the person he left, considering that jealousy might have led to the end of the relationship. He feels as though he's amounted to very little in life after the relationship and wants to return to the time where life wasn't so vicarious and he took chances... but this time around he wants it to be more than just fun... he wants something real |

It's quite possibly "cheap-ish pop" but consider the violinist - an incredibly difficult piece, even for the violin master. I've seen him play and he's amazing. |

I've lost one of my best friends to breast cancer and this song brings back all of the memories of our conversations of realizing that she would die. When she did die, I wasn't coping well and didn't know how to let her go. But this song keeps a part of her with me. She (Sarah) mentions "glowing embers" and being "skaken" and not being able to be together, so we must go on and do what we have to do. She would defintely want me to go on, but after3 years, I still don't know how to let her go. But Sarah also explains that "fate has led you through it" so maybe it's destined to be this way. But I'm surely shaken by the violence of losing her and do what I have to do to move on. Nevertheless, she's always the glowing ember in my heart.... every single day and I still haven't learned how to let her go after these years that have gone by. She's a BEAUTIFUL person, inside and out and will always be... forever! |
