Well done michelle, bringing some knowledge to this opinion-fest. Reaching for the most-obvious conclusion, using little actual knowledge and claiming to have invented everything - ah well that's the americans for you! As it says on wiki it's probably an old anglo-saxon song (gremany/finland) so pre-dates america as a country by a good few hundred years. Leadbelly's song? yeah right. LZ's version is fairly good but check out Nic Jones's 'Prickly Bush' to hear it done as it should be - a FOLK song |

Actually it's a traditional folk song taught to Jansch by Anne Briggs - called Blackwater Side. Page ripped it off via Jansch, and then claimed he'd written it! To hear it sung properly check out Anne Briggs' or Sandy Denny's versions |

This is all wish-fulfillment. 'I lke LZ and LOTR so I'll prove the song's about LOTR'. You have quotes from the author of the song saying what the source was and you're still disputing it!! The song is based on old myths, LOTR is based, in part, on the same myths - that's the only connection. If you don't know who Sandy Denny was then you're clearly too young to have an opinion! |

@pickanme Why are you so insulting? You're welcome to your views but don't denegrate mine. I don't agree with your 'obvious' interpretation - did you know Manchester in the late 80's? Or are you just saying what you THINK? Squire was the weak link as he was from the 'posh' part so not really 'street', he was the one who went to far into the drugs, and he was the one who took them down the 'Led Zep tribute band' alleyway that was The Second Coming. |

| Hardly redundant! Very, very dark lyrics that don't need to be explained | |
| The Stone Roses – Elizabeth My Dear Lyrics | 21 years ago |
| Scarborough Fair is an old English folk song - thye guy who taught it to Paul Simon is still pissed off about it - no thanks, money etc | |
| The Stone Roses – Sally Cinnamon Lyrics | 21 years ago |

Yes it's about a letter found / stolen on a train. Probably right about the lesbian (crush?) thing. One of the best pop songs ever IMO |

| The Stone Roses – Breaking Into Heaven Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
Nothing at all to do with God. The Roses rejected any religion but hard drugs. The ressurection, the devil etc are all refs to drugs. It's about getting a girl, getting her on drugs. Manchester's a very heavy place (in parts). Breaking into heaven - taking someone's virginity / taking heroin. Sorry to disappoint but the god thing's just wish fulfillment on your part. |

| The Stone Roses – She Bangs The Drums Lyrics | 21 years ago |
|
Yes & no mate it's about a female drummer from a band in Manchester one of them (Squire?) fancied like mad - unusually among Roses songs there's no dark hidden meaning. But as an analogy the drummer drumming on his guts fits. One of the best base lines ever IMO |

| The Roses are one of the best bands ever. Manchester's favourite sons. You need to understand where they came from to really get the lyrics - grim innner city poverty streets (well everyone except Squire - the weak link). With all Roses songs lyrics heroin's not far away. This is about pushers, muggers, wasted friends, trying to get away - knowing he won't manage it and the grimness of the life they were faced with. | |
| Queen – The Show Must Go On Lyrics | 21 years ago |

The saddest & best Queen sing. Freddie's requiem. His goodbye to his friends / fans. The video of this husk of a man but still with that amazing voice shows his courage & optimism even at the end. Freddy was around all my life from the rock days to when, quite frankly, Queen weren't relevant anymore. This song & video made everyone realise how great they were & how much we were going to lose. The day he died they played all Queen songs on the AM drivetime show on Radio 1 (national UK radio). Everyone (from kids to truckers) had the volume right up, windows down and tears in their eyes. I just hope he knew how much he was genuinely loved (for being him, gay, extreme etc) by everyone in Britain. Just played it 4/5 times back to back and it still makes me cry. Roger |
