I don't agree that this song is about a breaking up of a relationship, but one that he wants to pursue. It is about meeting a girl for the first time..."I took a chance and changed the meaning of your life, but you misread my meaning when I met you"....he would like to begin a relationship with this girl, however she keeps shutting the door on him....aka...letting the sun go down on him. Its clear from the beginning of the song that this is what he means. the first four lines indicates how she has 'let the sun go down on him' and therefore its dark, but he can't 'light it anymore'...which means, he's trying so hard to get her to open the door.....or 'let the light back in' but she won't. and because of that, he feels as though he's frozen in time.
"Although i search myself, its always someone else i see
I'd just allow a fragment of your life to wander free"....he's trying to find a way thru all the darkness by finding the answer within himself, but he keeps thinking of her....and hopes if only she'd just allow a little bit of herself to wander free instead of closing herself fully from him, there would be more light in his life.
this is truly a beautiful, poetic song. so sad! |

one of those songs that makes you realize what you've been feeling and trying ot make sense of, but couldn't quite get it out into words. serves as a reminder to step back and take a look at how we are actually living life. i love her voice |

he didn't write about the World Trade Centers falling...its a song about the ignorance that people live in. its this thought of what will life come to. and what is the purpose and meaning for why i am here. think about The Matrix. how neo had to breakthrough to another world ,,,the real world, to realize the illusion that he had been living his whole life. btw...lifehouse is a christian band...and it perfectly correlates to the idea of heaven. |

this is one of those songs where you realize that you and the artist have felt EXACTLy the same way. One of those songs where you have this feeling, but you can't explain it...until you read the lyrics and are telling yourslef i coudln't have explained it Any better. this song is about how he was lonely and unfulfilled until he met this girl who changed his life and showed him "warmth". just as he was getting used to the idea that he could be with her forever....it turns out that she has to leave, and he will have to be lonely again. i love the line "slowly i can feel my heart dropping, forever's end is tearing us apart" thats bringing so much of what is going on inside himself and capturing into words. hard to do! "forever's end"....whew! irony at its best. lovin it. |

this is a deep song about depth. stay with me now. the artist is talking about a world in which we live where everything, everyone is too busy with their own lives to actually slow down and think about life and the meaning of many things. as the artist observes this shallow aspect of the world...he feels pity for those who are shallow because they do not know what they are missing out on. He also states in the song that because of this meaning in my life...i have reason to try. there is purpose in what im doing. not just blind and following the crowd. This in turn makes him Alive, as he states. I love the line "i can't paint this picture for you, you'll never see in my shade of blue"...thats beautiful. it means that words could not justify the meaning in his life, that he could never explain it to someone else. they would hvae to experience meaning/ depth for themselves. |

in response to petey3eb.... the very essence of christianity lies on the basis to first admit we are sinners and therefore have to be ssaved by God. So you generalizing Christians like that doesn't even make sense. ... however, i do agree that there are people out there who do honestly believe they are completely righteous/better than the rest of everyone else. there may be people who even happen to be christians who think they are better than everyone else...they're apparently wrong and need to be corrected...but jsut so you know...don't make that generalization. its like saying all black people are criminals. as for the meaning of the song, i agree with you. there are many people who do seem to have that attitude about themselves. put themselves on a pedestal and believe they are better than the rest. this also goes both ways tho....what if someone WAS better than you? would you be willing to admit it? or would you be too self righteous? |

i believe this song is mainly about a relationship and his perspective on it at a certain point in his life. it seems as though he was confused about the relationship and the things that came with it. he might have had an idea of what a relationship is supposed to be about, but then during the course of it, found it to be completely opposite of what he thought...hence everything being twisted to its opposite. I'm the first person to comment! woot! I think this song is about how he met a girl and she changed his life for the good, but he is resentful that the whole thing happened because I'm guessing that during the later course of the relationship she must have treated him wrong or they ended in a bad way.
He admits that she's a great person thru the lyrics, but he wants her to "get away" as he says repeatedly. It seems as tho, he is so mad at her that he could to kill her and he would feel alright about it. I get this from "i'll slice you up make you sorry you invented feeling"..."but not before i slice your wrist intentionally" ... "im imagining you laying softly and me with a conscience clean" despite all these harsh words, i believe these are just the feelings inside himself, but he would never commit this action....bcuz he is thankful about how this girl has "healed" him. He is a newer and happier person, but resentful of what happened in their relationship. A taste of bittersweet. this song has a cool sound to it. |

this song is about becoming sick and tired of being the kind of person that someone wants you to be. they want to become their real self again, but its hard to convey that to people who have only seen your 'fake' self. Thus, he wants to be pushed aside and let go. he does want to feel cared by people bcuz it hurts him that people care bcuz he knows they care about the 'fake' him. so he will make them stop caring by lying to those around him. |
